My 43" TCL 4-series via Target slickdeal has been running strong since Black Friday. Picture Quality settings are kinda non-existent and the current setting I have it on is a bit too colorful and vibrant for my liking but it's been a good kitchen tv.

I have a 65" series 4. Got it in June of 2018, and it's worked great. It's not amazing quality (compared to Mini LED or OLED), but also hard to beat for the price point.

It just started acting up. Turns on, but video content won't play. Netflix, HBO, etc loads, and the menu is visible, but the videos don't play and no sound. I unplugged it for a minute, and got it to work again. I've done this maybe 3 times over the last few months, so I'm shopping for a TV now. Figured it was on it's last leg.

Paid $600, and got almost 5 years out of it. I'm okay with that.

edit: It's not very bright. If you have a bright room, I would pass. Works fine for my room since I don't have any windows behind it, and have shades on the side windows.

The only bad part about this (and most every other TCL/Roku TV I've had (I'm at 5, including this one), is low volume. Not sure if everyone has this problem (though it's quite common in TCL forums), but I typically have to keep it ~ 90-100 (100 is peak volume) in order to hear dialog.

FYI:
- direct lit (vs full array)
- doesn't support Dolby Vision
- states 1B colors which means 10bit screen?!? I doubt it. Probably 8bit with FRC. At 60hz refresh no local dimming, you may see some ghosting.

Good enough for a loft, playroom.

I have the 55" model series 4 and it's been awesome for at least 4 yrs now, hence why I am inserted in this.

Of note, the reviews boil down to:
Recent purchases: awesome, high ratings
Older/longer ownership: software update made the TV unusable or limited. No update on that negative although I would assume a patch was pushed to fix it.

Overall I've been impressed with TCL enough to try again. Consider an extended warranty if you're worried about it and like warranties.

I don't game, just stream.

I have the previous model, the 75S431 that I got from Walmart 2.5 years ago and as far as I can tell, it's the exact same TV. It's pretty terrible. My first one developed a large miscolored line horizontally across the entire middle of the screen. I got a warranty replacement and left it in the box for almost 2 years and recently put the replacement in to service.

Other than the first one messing up, both only have okay image quality (there is no wow factor to HDR content), blacks are terrible, there is really bad image retention, horrible ghosting, and the Roku OS gets slow occasionally.

I'd avoid these cheap TVs for anything larger than 55" and spend $200-$300 more on a real tv. Replaced that TCL after it died with a low end 75" Sony for $800 and the quality and usability is on an entirely different planet.

I have the Android version of this exact same 75" TV. I won't comment on picture quality because its fine for a $600 75" TV. You get what you pay for when it comes to picture quality in my opinion.

My biggest issue with this TV is the software on it. The HDMI ARC connection is almost purposely configured improperly where it lets devices (I have tried Apple TV, Roku stick, and fire stick) turn on the tv but doesn't let them turn it off. So you have to always have the TCL remote around to turn the TV off. I also have the audio going out to a sound bar and the TV will sometimes randomly turn off the audio out setting so every few days I have to go into the setting and then the audio out to sound bar.

The software glitches, not sure if it's by design or genuine glitches, are too much of a problem for this to be an everyday TV. It's probably fine in a guest room.
