What does it mean to "decouple it from my hard wood floors"? Is that like using the foam underneath the sub?
That said- depending how open your concept is you might still be disappointed.
The story I always tell is back in the day I had a house with a big open floorplan on the first floor, open to the entire first floor, and the stairs, and a loft on 2nd floor.... then 2nd floor also had a couple of closed-off bedrooms and bathrooms.
There was a stereo system in the living room downstairs, and one of the upstairs rooms used as an office/media area.
At the time I had a Dayton Audio 12" sub....which was very well known as an excellent super-cheap sub... ($99 and most folks said you'd need to spend 5x to get something noticeably better.
But they also said it's actually worth spending a lot more for a proper home theater experience.
I was very dubious.
But...SVS had the free 45 day in home trial with free return shipping so I figured why not find out? I ordered a PB2000.
First A/B testing was downstairs in the open living room. And the SVS was noticably better. But not like jaw dropping better. CERTAINLY not many-times-the-price better. Just somewhat cleaner and maybe a touch deeper. I was underwhelmed.
But then it was trying to fill a space that if you included the stairs and 2nd floor loft was like 10,000 cubic feet.
Next I took it upstairs, to the office/media room that was only about 1600 cubic feet and did the A/B test.
That WAS jaw dropping. Incredibly so.
The best example was one of the test scenes I used was the plane crash from 2004s Flight of the Phoenix.
With the Dayton sub it sounded like a really good recording of a plane crash.
With the SVS, it felt like you were in a plane crash.
Night and day experience....and I kept (and still have to this day, though it's my secondary sub in a smaller room now) the PB2000.
But I didn't get one for downstairs....wouldn't get a much better sub that actually COULD fill a massive space for a couple more years after that (and it wasn't SVS, you can do better for less $ in that class...but you're going to be paying several grand at least, depending how huge a space you're talking)
Which is a weird read since it (and my other posts) read nothing like one.
For example I've mentioned this sub while excellent for the price in small/mid sized spaces isn't worth it for folks with larger spaces and higher end needs... in fact I make that exact point in the post you quote- discouraging buying this product if you're trying to get great bass in a large open area and explaining a buyer of this product might be disappointed in the purchase if doing so- and that I ended up needing a DIFFERENT product to actually work well in the larger space. (not something even from this same company- whose higher end stuff is overpriced for its performance, whereas this item offers good performance for the price if you're properly sizing the job)
I also mentioned in one of the first posts of the thread this was not any special rush-out-last-chance deal as they run this sale every couple months.
Yup- something like this which is generic from a 3rd party-
https://www.amazon.com/Auralex-Ac...B00COVEJ1E
Or SVS makes their own "SoundPath Subwoofer Isolation System" that uses little round kinda "feet" instead of a big mat if you prefer that
Note you can almost certainly make your own isolation pad cheaper...and there's considerable debate on if these are genuinely useful or not.
https://www.avsforum.co
That's a 100+ post thread on avsforum for example with known folks like Bill Fitzmaurice and Jim Wilson on opposite sides of the topic.
Bill essentially saying "I measured the output of the sub both ways and it makes no difference" and Jim saying "I'm not arguing the sub sounds better- but it's a fact less random stuff in my house vibrates when the sub plays now"
Everyone seems to agree that if it's useful at all it's more useful on non-carpeted floors if that's any help.
BTW...the same source shows the Denon X3800 as " not recommenced"
It did not do well in several tests either
So if you believe the Onkyo/Pioneer are "great pre/pros"…… 🤷🏻 ♂️
So if you believe the Onkyo/Pioneer are "great pre/pros"…… 🤷🏻 ♂️
But to your point....both of them are in the " not recommended " group...
I do think the Onkyo/Pioneer is a great pre/pro for the price
Always have said exactly that
If that was my budget for a pre/pro..it would be a no brainer at this point

So they are "similar" but you "prefer" the less "better" because it's its not "worth" the price. 🤔
Well fancy that!

The Onkyo/Pioneer has poor amp results
The Denon X3800 has poor build quality /design
Both " not recommended" but for different reasons
You buy a separate amp if you go Onkyo/Pioneer. If budget constained I would use one of your examples and that is to look at the used market
You can get a great multichannnel amp( B&K, Rotel, harman, Sherbourn, Carver etc etc) to name a few for $400-600 that will easily outperform any sub $3500 AVR on the market today
With the Denon..you still have to pay the Dirac fees..you can't fix the design/build quality issues and and its internal amps cant even come close to any of the amps performance I just listed
So...similar?....I think not..

Those "poor amps" continue to drive full power as a processor which is not a good thing, those results show why.
Everyone I know that want to use an AVR as a processor always ask to be able to turn off the internal amps for that very reason.
The 3800 can do that!
As those results show no external amp will not change that significant "different" disadvantage. 🤷🏻 ♂️

That is correct..but they receive the ratings for different reasons...
An external amp will most definitely change the results ...such as I suggested in that scenario I pointed out before
Years ago I used an external amp with an AVR and it performed great for a few years
How would you change the design/build quality of the X3800 so that it performs better and changes its " not recommended " status?
Other than not even considering it in the first place..I dont see a way around that...

The results and reviews as a "pre/pro" includes an external amp, clearly doesn't "change it"! 🤔
As I mentioned there is a reason everyone ask to shut off internal amps, when you can't it's a disadvantage.
If that's incorrect shows us where it says it isn't?
No need to change Denon design, I and many many others prefer it.
I and many many others have been using Denon for many many years with no quality issues!
Again regarding the "reasons" results as a "pre/pro" the 3800 is BETTER than Onkyo/Pioneer.
I'm just the messenger but I do agree! 🤷🏻 ♂️

Links to that..or is that speculation again?
The Denon X3800 ..quite frankly fails a myriad of tests from a source that you have provided links to as a litmus test of performance...due to design and build quality issues related to standardized testing
And I am just the messenger of that information....

Regarding the ONE myriad on which is a BETTER "pre/pro" the 3800 wins that's not speculation ,those are "facts" also.🤷🏻 ♂️

You have stated you have experience with the " majority of Best Buy employees", so I cannot speak from a level of experience of over 50,000 people
However..I guess I travel in the circle and know people that are most concerned with better sound quality as their prime motivator for selection
So the tested/actual/published figures for jitter, distortion and noise floor for the Denon X3800 , making it a " not recommended" piece would be a concern and one that I dont know how you would fix
In fact , according to the test evaluator, the X3800 showed a step backward " regression " in factual testing results then went further on to explain the concerns with design and build quality
Buy hey...you you do...
