Correct. RT-ACRH18 uses a MediaTek chipset so no DD/open wrt or tomato. Too bad I would have bought a bucket-load at this price.

The RT-AC68U is sooo close to this it hurts, you really could be fooled as this looks identical to arguably the best Asus router (RT-AC68U when priced right).

I think it's still a different router, the one on sale is http://en.techinfodepot.shoutwiki..._RT-ACRH18

As far as I understand AC1750 is not really a model, more like total WIFI speed it is capable of
From the link I provided:
• 1300 Mbps - 3SS 5GHz 802.11ac (80MHz chan.),
• 450 Mbps - 3SS 2.4GHz 802.11n (40MHz chan.) = AC1750 class
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Pretty similar price point to the T-Mobile AC1900 which seems clearly superior as long as can flash it to a stock firmware. I've done that twice and it certainly wasn't hard for anyone who would be looking to run any third party firmware. If I'm not mistaken this and older version of the firmware and Asus has already announced no new development on that line of firmwares so even with this being new it's pretty much already EOL too.

Purchased two of the T-Mo AC1900 back during the fire sale and they have been running great AIMESH mode using the AC68U Merlin flash. I was hoping to add this as another node but if it doesn't support AIMESH then no.

I have that one, but I need Wifi 6 for Airlink on Meta Quest 2. I don't think this is WiFi 6 and as you implied it's not compatible with *WRT firmware either.

I think the recommended one is RT-AX55 for VR use. Waiting on a sale for that one.

Yeah those tm-ac1900's flashed over to Merlin or fresh tomato are a fantastic deal... But they seem to be drying up and even refurbished are seeing an increase in price, they used to go sub $30

Thanks, almost jumped thinking it could run Merlin with AImesh.

I picked this up for my mother for $30 last week from Amazon. Her internet is through ATT and they are doing some funky filtering/throttling that was making downloads crawl, video streaming choppy, and just general screwing over any network traffic that wasn't a speed test (have to pretend you are getting what you pay for).

I had noticed that when connected to a VPN, all of the network issues vanished. I set this one up to connect to a nearby Windscribe server and *poof* all the internet issues are solved for everyone connected to the router. So far it is exceeding all my expectations for $30. Handles OpenVPN like a champ. Great range and speed. She has 30+ devices connected on the weekends with no problem.
