Folks - For an OS drive you won't be able to tell the difference between this and another that is 5000 or 7000 MB/s. This is 7 times faster than traditional SSDs which are around 500MB/s and still can barely tell the difference for boot drive between those unless you use a stop watch. You really need to be doing massive 4K editing and even then chances are the bottleneck will be in other areas. Source: I worked for several years in the OS building team of a company whose OS you are probably using.
That said there is the usual conundrum of someday being able to use the extra 1500 to 3500MB/s some day for an extra $20 to 50 but chances are by then it will make more sense to go with PCIe5 drives.
Misinformation!

I have the 1tb version of this and It's been working just fine as an OS drive. Desktop in seconds, at game menu in less than a minute from shutdown to steam start-up and finally launching the game.

Updates don't take forever. Apps open fast.
There are numerous versions of this drive. So it's hard to know what you'll get based on other's reviews.

Seems there are better options for $20 less or more

If you're ok with QLC, like this deal, then for $80 there is this...
https://slickdeals.net/f/16507915-2tb-intel-670p-series-m-2-2280-pcie-x4-nvme-qlc-ssd-80-free-shipping.

and if you want better TLC and Dram for a little more then there is this...

Good price, but slow for a PCIe 4 drive. No dram, and QLC. Not good for an OS drive.
LOL.. I was running a 5yr old 250GB 2.5" SSD until recently, now 980 pro Nvme.
Bootup times and apps load just as fast (I kept timings)

Games I had been using the 980pro, with 2.5" SSD for OS and basic apps (office2016/browser)
Now using the 980pro for most everything..... no difference TBH

Would this 2TB be slower than a 980pro? Yes.. but a game loading in 3.2sec instead of 3.9sec is fine to me...and most other people.

My $.02

Seems like an "OK" drive... personally I'd spend a few more$$ for something else as a drive like this should last for years.

Review of drive....

What do you think about 2TB PNY CS3040 XLR8 ?

PNY > Kingston

Kingston is the worst in my experience. Stick to Sandisk or Samsung

You could use a cheap drive like this Kingston but depending on how you use your computer it might crap out in a year or two. Basically for best endurance you want TLC chips and for best performance you want DRAM. At current prices you'll pay $160 for a good 2TB NVMe PCIe 4 drive that is TLC and has DRAM. Personally I would go with a Samsung 980 Pro but there are other good drives out there too.
Please stop spreading misinformation! QLC lasts longer than other components of your TLC DRAM NVMe such as controller or other peripheral chips. With the 3-year warranty in place, Kingston is not an idiot.

Btw, do you realize $60 more also means 60% higher than this deal?Peace

This is so true. For cheapness, Intel 670p is a no-brainer, with DRAM also. For better quality or speed, P5 plus can't be beaten. The only market for NV2 is PS5, which requires Gen 4, to be honest.

It has been reported, 1TB version is SLC, 2TB becomes bad with QLC
There is so much misinformation every time when it comes to QLC deals here.
Come on, there hasn't been any consumer-grade SLC SSD for the past half-decade at least.

Your point on the other chips is valid, but so is mine. Sure, there are people who will buy Kia Rio's, but people still buy Toyota Corollas even though they are 25% more expensive because they want a more reliable car that's going to last longer. If you heavily rely on a car for your work, then you're more likely to want the Corolla. If you just need a second runaround then the Rio might fill the bill. For me, I don't cheap out on my OS drives because it's really bad if they go bad. No warranty is gonna save me from that hassle.

This is a perfect example of why Gen 3 vs Gen 4 debate makes no sense for 95% of end users. It can be "next gen" and be the same or slower than a previous gen drive. Shop the best bang for your buck; cost per GB. There is another deal for the Intel 670p 2TB m.2 2280 NVMe storage for $80 on NewEgg. Save some money and get the same storage capacity.

Got your points. Higher end products or those with 5-year warranty naturally give customers higher confidence that it might last longer than average/low one, but QLC is not the one to blame I would say, but the product as a whole.

I'd love to see some data on that. I wonder if any of the cloud providers publish SSD reliability stats. That said, they probably wouldn't be using these types of drives.
