Personally, I think the lack of penalties on Ally's 4.75% CD makes this a less than great deal, especially with the possibility of rates going up even higher.

I got the 15 mth CD from Navy fed when they had 5.25%.
That rate is gone now.
I'll watch and wait to see who offers the best rates after the next couple of fed. res. rate increases for this month and in May.

Rates won't be going up now. They'll reverse course on that one real quick.

Two major bank collapses. SVB collapsed because they were so far underwater with rising interest rates. If they don't reverse course more banks will collapse soon.

You know about as much as anyone else about future interest rates. Nothing. For every article claiming lower, there is one claiming higher.

** this is NOT financial advice **

5% seems so measly to me - for every $1000, you earn $50... in 12 months. Perhaps the way to look at it is like a high-yield savings account (that you can't touch for a year at a time). But, SoFi Bank offers a 3.75% HYSA with a $250 direct deposit bonus ($5000 deposit)... that's 8.75% APY.

alternatively, pick any popular tech stock: APPL, GOOGLE, MSFT, NVDA, TSLA, etc... they're all smashing 5% in only 72 days (YTD).

And, in betting terms, that's equivalent to a -9500 odds bet. I wouldn't waste my time with lopsided odds like that. A $100 bet on a -200 odds favorite wins $50... instantly.
