On the customer reviews on the Walmart website, this tablet actually has a good rating (4.4/5 stars out of 139 reviews), so it's tempting to want to buy this, as I've been wanting to try to get a reasonably good/affordable tablet, at a relatively good/affordable price ($100-$200 range). And I happen to have some Walmart store credit that I could use to pay for it, so this is particularly tempting for me, personally.
However, I must admit that I know very little about tablets. So, if you, or anyone else, would like to reply and share some more feedback about this tablet, and what may be a better alternative that is available for a similar price (especially, a tablet that could be purchased from Walmart), I would really appreciate a helpful response.
Also, I am just looking for a tablet that will be good for relatively basic, common uses. Like, browsing social media apps (Reddit, Facebook Instagram), checking out SlickDeals, watching YouTube, and listening to podcasts.

As far as updates go, this unit is expected to get Android 13 2nd qtr of this year. As far as security updates, time will tell but they are supposed to maintain security updates until 2025. https://support.lenovo.
I think this tablet will be great for your use case. I intend to use mine as a DJI quadcopter controller as well and as long as the screen is visible in the sun, it will perform that function well.
i think it's like that for many tablet vendors. even if they do update it, it's never for long - i'm looking at you, sony! get a laptop with touchscreen instead. that'll probs last longer than most non updated tablets.......

Easy access to local news. Latest songs. If you can bear with annoying ads FM is still good to have as an option
Hardware management? IE, without the app, there may be nothing to send to the driver/kernel basic hardware management commands.
Well Target currently has the 9.7" basic iPad (last gen though) for $250 if you just need basic task and already in the Apple ecosystem. Over $100 more expensive than this Lenovo, yes, but something to consider if not wanting to spend $600 on another Apple device.
