I bought this one last spring and used it all summer. I'm mostly happy with it.

As a couple other commenters said, it does not like thick/tall grass. A couple passes, at least, might be needed.

The one issue I had was the battery went bad but I was able to get a warranty replacement without issue and they let me keep the bad battery (it originally came from DTO) so now I have a bunch of 18650s to use in misc. projects 😀

It's a Ryobi and everything they make is junk anymore. I've had similar issues with two 40v Snowblowers and finally gave up. Push the button and hear a little sound then nothing. The other one pushed the button and absolutely nothing.

You've heard the old saying don't fix what isn't broke? Notice how every year Ryobi changes something on the previous years model? That speaks volumes to me. They're not improving, they're constantly trying to re-engineer the previous years crap.

I had the same issue on a 3 or 4 year old model, after a couple of years of ownership. Luckily Home Depot gave me credit towards a new one even after a couple of years bc Ryobi's warranty repair shops were several months out before they were going to be able to repair mine.

All the people hating on cordless mowers... I've had a Snapper 60v mower for 7 years now and that thing has worked FLAWLESSLY. Still haven't had to sharpen the blade, but use it for trim work as my lawn tractor does all the heavy work. Still runs about 20-25 minutes a week and I live in the deep south so that's 8-9 months out of the year of a mowing season. Still has the original batteries. Get with the times, folks. No more fighting carburetors, rope pulling, air filters, or anything else.

I have the exact same mower and experience. Bought two in 2016 for $99 each on clearance and I've yet to open the second one. I'm hating on Ryobi and their garbage products, not battery products. Ryobi products are beyond junk anymore and I've given up on the brand unless clearance priced.

I've had this happened to my mower too. Then the problem magically went away one day. It happened often when the grass was thick.

This happened to me. Over a year of always turning right etc the screws got loose of where bar connects the main unit and some kind of "switch" contact was lost. A few YouTube videos re the places to check/tighten and fixed it for me. Another time (not me) my son couldn't get it to start bc the grass bag wasn't attached correctly. However, in your case, just look up "ryobi lawnmower won't start or cuts off" and watch videos. I hope that helps.

My first mower 15 yr ago was a Honda Engine gas mower, the deck rusted all the way through but I patched it. The thing was also heavy as heck and hard to push around even with self-propel feature.

Got a electric one and never looked back. It's not self propelled but it's easier to push since it's so light.

Running a craftsman with b&s gas here, kept outside in socal 24/7/365.

Never changed the gas, only added more 89 octane each mow, never running it dry.

Filter change yearly.
Oil change every 3-4 years when it goes dark.
Sparks only when the tip is obviously worn - again every 3-4 years.

20+ years and the only thing that's broken is the pull cord, replaced once.

....

The aqmd REBATE for socal is really tempting - can get up to a $250 rebate, meaning a free $250 battery mower!

But no matter how I do the math, the simple fact that the battery needs an expensive replacement every 3-8 years makes battery mowers a no-go for me.

Add in the mower reliability and cost to operate and there's absurdly no way to justify a battery mower for me on my 1500 sq ft lawn.

(It's like my $18.5k Versa versus any EV car. I'd have to drive 135-260k miles for the Versa to START being more expensive to run than the cheapest EV.)

A lot of battery tools for the lawn are like that unless you've got a huge lawn or lawn care business....

(And nobody's Saying what happens to all the Non-recyclable lithium battery SLAG that's going into the dump.... Hundreds of thousands of pounds of toxic waste....)
