I think there should be standardization for "7.1 virtual surround" every headset claims it, but in reality it is not effective.

I have the wireless version of these and absolutely love them. I'm not one to normally rave about a product like this, but they really do sound great for a great price. I would totally get these.

Looks like Amazon noticed that the link got posted somewhere and jacked the price of the new ones to $52.49 and the refurbished units up to $37.65

This kind of behavior - fluctuating reactive pricing - is part of why I don't shop at Amazon as much as I used to. I was intending to buy one of these from them but now that they've raised the price I won't.

F*** Amazon.

In reality surround sound isn't possible from a wired headset since it's only stereo.

We've only got two ears.

Surround sound works by adjusting the volume of which sounds come out of which speakers, and additionally by shifting the time ever so slightly. This is much easier to do with only two speakers.

One of the worst gaming headset I have ever tried. Bloated bass, dull sound and microphone won't pick up your voice unless you speak pretty load. So no late night gaming.

I use this headset primarily for gaming. I have not had any of these issues that you speak of. It has been a great headset for me, and I have been using mine for almost 2 years.

Those were the prices when I posted the comments. Amazon's dynamic pricing fluctuates based on page activity so they don't tend to stay the same for very long.
