Once your phone is unlocked, insert T-Mobile Sim card, click allowed to install T-Mobile software ,your phone gonna restart and all the att software got removed, then go to settings find software update you will get android 13,
Last, you don't need att sim for software update in the future
Can you let me know where I can find the "allowed to install T-Mobile software" option? I popped in my TMobile sim and it didn't show anything

As someone mentioned earlier, just go to the unlock request page from app/website and select I don't have att acc, it will prompt you to prove imei number and you can go from there

Can someone post a step by step process for the one that uses a different unlocked phone?

Does the phone come with sim pre-installed? If so, do you remove sim before or after powering on phone?

I think I understand that you put sim in different unlocked phone, make call, then use unlock portal for fold?

I have an update on my fiasco. I got a call before I was heading to Best Buy this morning from geek squad. They needed the last 4 of the ssn so they could contact att and move the process forward. Cutting it short it took 2 different people from geek squad and a phone call to att from me to get the order squared away and ready for pickup. Once I got home with the phone I put the sim card in that was included with the phone but no matter what I try it will not register on the network. I contacted att support via chat about an hour ago and explained the situation to that person. After providing the name, number, and account number he told me that he cannot locate the account and gave me a number to call. Unfortunately at that point it was out of office hours so I'll try tomorrow. One thing I will say to anyone trying to update and cannot figure out how to update I currently have the Samsung Smart-Switch software on my pc. When the phone is plugged in via USB and you allow USB data from your phone(a dialog box pops up on the phone) and an update icon will show up in the center on the pc software. Once you click that you can update the phone incrementally through there. I was out of the box on android 11 and 1 update in its on Android 12 going for the 2nd update. I hope that helps someone.

*edit 2nd update in and on android 13 and eSIM is available with December '22 patch.
Ok so just need install samsumg smartswotch

Did you put in the att sim card at all in the beginning? I only put in the T-Mobile sim from the beginning and still stuck on Android 11, and showing no updates. Never asked me about T-Mobile software either.
My guess is that you can't get updates because the phone is still locked to AT&T and you have a T-Mobile SIM in there. What I had read so far is that you need to fully activate this on AT&T first before you can cancel the service and unlock the phone. Once it's unlocked, then you should be able to put in your T-Mobile SIM, and the phone will identify itself as a T-Mobile phone.

For any current Att customers who bought this as a new line to cancel and keep for another line.

Did you activate the new sim/line or just call to cancel once the device was received before putting the sim in?

If your using it on AT&T then it shouldn't matter. But I'd definitely would unlock before you cancel the line. So AT&T won't give you any issues.

It only does it if your phone is unlocked

Anyone else kind of worried about durability? I'm in love with it but anxious about having issues. Was thinking about getting Samsung Care+ but the impressions on Reddit make it sound like their customer service isn't very good even if you have the extended warranty.

just use it for 1 year and then trade it in for newer model.

it's a folding phone. not a flat slab. and the screen itself folds. of course it's a durability hazard... guaranteed.

however, i've been using a fold 4 for several months now (thanks to sd, the google fi $1000 off deal) and have been generally happy with it. it's in a case, and i had to have bestbuy replace the inner screen + hinge due to creaks and general malaise under warranty, but that's a small price (my time, no dolla) to pay so i can sport the latest + greatest.

the fold 3 is supposed to be little less durable than the 4, but that's the nature of the game.

So under the manufacturer warranty, Samsung uses BestBuy for warranty repairs?

Has anyone got a shipping notification? I'm supposed to receive it tomorrow and haven't got a tracking number yet.

From others who have gone this route they did activate the new SIM and then went on to unlock before cancelling the line. That's what I plan to do. The z fold 3 is already showing the ATT account under the new line so I think it's already activated. I plan to use the unlock portal first with the IMEI without opening the phone and if it does not work I'll activate the phone with the SIM and then try.
