that is really ridiculous, when I called them at 3pm, the policy hadn't changed yet. I call att again after transfer to a supervisor, the lady helped me unlock the phone without question. I guess it is the one-time exception.
The chat agent also sent me that "new" policy, and I argued that it was not in effect at the time of purchase since it says it was updated literally today. I can understand application of the new policy for purchases as of today but not older. I argued the old policy is applicable. Was put on the phone with someone who tried to unlock but couldn't because the 60 day requirement. He tried to get that overridden, but the manager denied the request for "fraud," without any further clarification. The gentleman I spoke with said he can only give me the manager's first name. I informed him that I will be filling an FCC complaint. I guess I'll see how that goes. Not wasting anymore time with these ATT clowns.

It looks like AT&T management is on Slickdeals reading what everyone's doing so they can prevent people from taking advantage of their promotion which is meant to keep customers loyal to AT&T.

Spoke with 2 individuals (non us), same words, can't unlock until 60 days. They kept saying it was an error on their system that stopped them from unlocking it. I spoke with 3rd person who was a "supervisor" who called me from different line (American). She also said they were notified of a lot of unlock calls and changed the policy on 3/23/23. She said there is nothing she can do. So I guess we gotta pay for 60 days now to get it unlocked.

I also filed a complaint see how it goes. So beware to those who didn't get there phone in yet. Earlier people succeeded but late ppl will probably fail.

Anyone know if it's 60 days of active paid service (pay for 2 months) or if I just have to wait 60 days and can cancel in a day or two since it is already activated today.

what sucks is I bought it on the 25 but couldn't pick up until today. I guess I was a day to late....

So, I have not received the phone yet. However, on my bestbuy order page, it says Mobile Activated... I will not receive the device until April 4th. If I wait to cancel until I receive the device, am I going to be liable for the $30 activation + the $60 monthly service charge, since it's outside of that 3-day window? Or, would the service actually start on the day I receive the phone and put the sim card in? I am not sure what to do at this point and just want to return the damn thing without nothing out of my pocket (looks like there is a restocking fee from Bestbuy, even if unopened)... Following this thread has been stressful, in fear of unable to unlock, while all of you being helpful. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks!

It's frustrating but I'm thinking that if I cancel the line I get a $200 tablet ($300 - $115 iphone xr trade in). Hopefully it'll unlock in 60 days if not I get a tablet.

My port in process was lingering due to wrong pin number. I almost cancelled the order but I finally managed to get the correct pin to complete the process. Reading new policy and people getting hard time unlocking the point, I regret not canceling the order. I might have to pay one month pay plus $35 activation fee too.

I received my Fold 3 a couple of hours ago. I did not insert the sim card in the Fold 3, didn't even turn it on. I checked and my AT&T account is active. I went to the Unlock Portal and it accepted the IMEI when I selected Do Not Have an AT&T Number. I said it sent me an email, but I have not received the email. I checked my spam and junk folders, no email. It's been an hour since I submitted the request. Another strange thing, when I entered the IMEI and it searched a database, it came back with the model number SM-F711U, which is the model number for a Flip 3?

I tried submitting another unlock request, but received the message I need to wait 24 hours. Does it sound like I may be able to unlock?

I put the sim card in a factory unlocked S22 Plus phone, and I checked my AT&T account and it is not showing the Fold 3 as a device. It shows my ported number, but no device information. I made a call to and from, as well as messaging on the S22 and everything works.

Any insight as to what is going on with the account?

It's time to flood best buy with returns and the FCC with complaints if AT&T tries to apply the new policy retroactively.

Thanks for the tip. I filed a complaint. Hopefully they will unlock now.
Did you hear back from AT&T after filing a complaint with FCC?
