Based on this confirmation of policy change, it appears as they will not unlock any phones purchased after 28th unless individuals wait 60 days.
What about on the 28TH?

I bought this phone by using my auntie's ATT account. I chose upgrading her phone number. Thus, if I activate the sim card came with the phone, her current sim card will be deactivated. The problem is that she lives in other state. Can I borrow my co-worker ATT sim card (different ATT account ) to activate the phone? Then, do the swapping sim trick to request unlocking 🧐

*The FCC case really helped*

My name is Stephen S. from the Office of the President. Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us via the FCC. I apologize for the issues you've had with AT&T.

We did not "retroactively" change our policy. The unlock policy was changed on 3/28/23. Under the new policy, customers must wait 60 days to unlock any phone, including those paid for in full at the time of purchase.

In this particular case, we will honor the policy that was in effect when you purchased your phone and the unlock code you requested is as follows:

Xxxxxxxx

The phone should ask for this code when a non-AT&T SIM card is inserted into it.

Please let me know if you have any other questions regarding this matter.

Sincerely,

Stephen S.
Office of the President
that's great news! I spent 2 hours on the phone with AT&T and went through different depts then supervisor's supervisor and it was like literally nothing. filed complaint immediately after, how long did it take for your response? also did the FCC get the unlock code for you or did they patch an AT&T person who then gave it to you?

I don't think so. You would have to call, unfortunately. But they are pretty quick to cancel the line. Took like 2 mins.
DO i have to activate the line before cancelling ?

alright folks. here's an update.

- received the device after a day's delay today
- set the fold3 up w/ included at&t sim card
- made a call, saw the fold3 on the online account pages
- put the sim into my unlocked fold4, made another call
- couple of minutes later, fold4 shows up on att online account
- opened an incognito tab after logging out of the att portal
- used the unlock portal with a different email address + my tmo phone number
- recd an email asking me to confirm the unlock code
- followed instructions
- received another email pretty much instantaneously with the unlock code
- put my tmo sim in the fold3, typed in the unlock code and made sure it works
- yep, all good. fold3 unlocked as designed
- next up, cancel att service because it truly is horrendous in my basement

all the best to y'all that are attempting this. it's truly a simple process and has been hyped up beyond understanding. at&t has also been screwing most of their "new" customers over and aren't making it easy.

someone here wanted a pattern. here you go, the beginnings of a template, unless you've already got one.
What option did you choose? Existing customer?

Nope. Used the non-customer option with a different email address and my tmo number so there's no tie-in to an att account details.

YMMV tho. Mine said they would not give me the code. So Who knows....

I don't think that number matters as long as it's not the ATT account. As mentioned before you choose not an existing ATT customer and then enter your details.

Anyone flashing used a global version SM-F926B instead of the SM-F926U which this z fold 3 model is. All F926U firmware I see are carrier specific ones and I want to flash an non carrier firmware.

I confirmed it worked for me. Now, should I port out a number or cancel? Is there a way to cancel service online w/o calling them?
