You can try to update using either 1) Running samsung smart switch sofware on a PC and connecting your phone. People have better luck updating this way using a Mac.
2) Use Odin to flash a carrier unlocked firmware. I listed the instructions couple of pages back.
Is there any risk to upgrading using either method? I'm afraid to mess up and brick the phone.

There is always a list, probably very low, but still a risk none the less

I had unlocked and cancelled my phone/service prior to doing any updates and as a result my updates were stuck in limbo. 3 days later I attempted again, this time without the ATT sim and lo and behold it started updating.

It seems to me it will still update without the SIM and service.

Thanks.
For option 2) Using Odin to flash a carrier unlocked firmware, can you perform it using a mac os?
I don't think there is an official port of Odin for Macs. Some developers have ported it but for option 2 you would need patched Odin (as normal Odin would not allow you flash a carrier unlocked firmware on this ATT version because of version mismatch, see the instructions I posted before), I don't think that's available on Mac. If you are so inclined you can do it in a Windows VM inside Mac.

The update using smart switch is safer but it did not work for me/many. Flashing is always a bit risky but Odin flags is pretty starightforward and you can flash back the old firmware if a problem happens.

I called again and received the same response, wiring 14 days not responsible, however I've been checking and bill still shows ~$100 owed.. any thoughts? Already called twice
i checked my att again and the bill was showing again. the rep had told me it was cancelled but should get a "final bill" with the 108 credit and thats how it shows as paid / cancelled.

This phone really is a POS. Mine already delaminated in the fold area. Less than one week old.

The online portal is still denying me:
"Current status - Denied
We can't unlock your device because your service hasn't been active for at least 60 days. Submit a new unlock request after your service has been active for at least 60 days."

I've got an active at&t account, and have verified that my iphone shows up under manage your devices, not my fold. Any other ideas?
I had the same issue.
I called a representative through my friends account.

He helped me unlock it within 5 minutes.
I guess its the representative who picks up the call.

Just got my unlock code using the portal AFTER cancelling my AT&T acct! I opened a new account/new line for this and had use the method posted here but were not successful in getting the unlock code before I closed the account... This is so weird but I'm glad I had tried so many times, so dont give up!

They updated this policy. New language: Was paid in full when you bought it (it was not purchased on an installment plan). You must wait 60 days from your purchase date to submit an unlock request.

So mine comes today and I am really on the fence as to whether to keep it, which was my intention when I bought it.

I am amazed at how widespread the screen issues are, and how reluctant Samsung is to address an obvious problem...my skepticism heightened yesterday when I ran into a friend that had a Fold 3. He let me play with it a while, prefacing it by apologizing for the two blemishes on his screen, one black smudge-like line down the interior spine and another horizontal one at the top of the right side. He said both appeared just after a year, outside of warranty. He otherwise loved the device and form factor but he had paid close to full price for the Fold and was pretty frustrated with the problems.

I might just sell while it has value.

Did you activated your line with ATT? I got the same email and then it disappeared after activating my phone and number with AT&T.

I bought mobile for new line on March 23. Received the phone after few days and talked to customer care for unlock and she escalated the case for me. Received the bill of 100+$ next day. Contacted customer care again, she rejected to unlock or waive the bill. Requested to cancel the line and decided to return it back to best buy. As a last try, I filed an FCC complaint, got unlock code today…!!
