I just set it up last night for Windows 11. I had to boot into Safe Mode, open Device Manager and find the unknown device, then update the driver and select the manually downloaded driver from the Kensington site. It now works great and is very convenient not just for Windows Hello logging in, but also unlocking my BitWarden vault.

Run this in Admin Powershell

Export-WindowsDriver -Online -Destination C:\Drivers-Backup

C:\Drivers-Backup can be set to wherever you want on the PC

I got one of these in the last deal. The unlock is fast and reliable. I didn't have to do anything special to make it work on Windows 10.

Make sure you scan all the different parts of your fingerprint when you set it up. Don't just put the same part of your finger on it repeatedly. That way, if you touch it awkwardly in the future, it will still pick up your print. I always try to make sure I go all the way around the outside edge of the print I am setting up.

It works well for unlocking Bitwarden also, which is much safer than unlocking it with a Pin, and more convenient than typing my master password.

I have two of these. They work great.

I've had no trouble using it for Windows Hello on Windows 10 and Windows 11. I use it to log into Windows and have it integrated with KeePass for quick unlock. I also use it for two factor authentication for Gmail, Dropbox, etc.

I trust this brand to work correctly and securely, compared to the Chinese off-brands available for a similar price.

Can you use this like a ubikey?
Yes, you can use it for Webauthn like a Yubikey. It's not the same, though.

You can bring the Yubikey between computers and it works the same for authentication. This fingerprint sensor integrates with Windows Hello and can only be used for authentication on the computer that it was configured on.

In order for this thing to work in Windows 11, plug it in, Check for Updates, go into Additional Updates, and then a biometric windows update will install. Too bad this does not do it automatically. That additional step of checking additional stuff is needed. This now makes Bitwarden super useful on my desktop just like my phone with fingerprint reader. Just make sure you get Bitwarden from the Bitwarden website and not through the Microsoft Store.

I've been using this on my Legion 5i Pro that stupidly didn't come with any Hello compatible hardware - it's been great, as I'd grew accustomed to fingerprint unlock with my Thinkpad X1.

Unfortunately, I've been unable to get my second one to work on my Thinkpad X1 - which I'm assuming may be related to it already having a fingerprint scanner built in. I'm currently using the Thinkpad as a work laptop connected to a couple of external screens with the lid closed and so cannot press the built in fingerprint scanner since it's on the power button.

Thanks so much for this! I have been trying to install the driver for days on Win 11. CS wasn't able to help either. We did the manual installation under device manager, but no luck. Safe Mode seemed to do the trick. FWIW, when I booted into safe mode and tried to install the driver under "other devices->unknown devices" it still timed out. I had to disable it and replug the device for it to show up under "biometric devices->unknown devices." The driver installed for me at that point.

I purchased two during the last sale, but have not had a chance to try them out. I did get two very different "generations" of this product. One box (with equal parts blue and white printing) was clearly the older model (with a 2018 date) and had a sticker with A2112 something on it. I'm presuming this is the firmware. The second box appears to be newer (almost entirely white in color) with A2117.

For those who are not having any luck with Windows 11, I'm curious if your device is one or the other of these (or something in the middle)

Mine which I had to use Win 11 Safe Mode to manually install had a sticker with A2117B on it.

Insane that even after downloading the drivers they wouldn't install. Going to try this when I get home as I was ready to return as well. Thank you very much for this info.

Just FYI for those that try this, I could not get the optional/additional update to appear in W11 Pro no matter what. If not appearing, I'd suggest trying the boot into safe mode trick mentioned elsewhere in this thread. Looks like there might be two generations of the product being shipped and that might have some effect. I already returned mine so don't know what generation it was.

Do you mean you haven't found a single program or physical accessory (such as this) that has had compatibility issues between Windows 10 and 11? My help desk colleagues are constantly complaining about this very thing, and I see it posted on tech forums nearly daily. I can't speak firsthand on it as I'm sticking to 10 but you'd have to be a special kind of oblivious to not notice all the people complaining about it.
Homie, my clients are midwestern government workers who act like technology is straight from satan and there hasn't been one issue specific to Windows 11, so far. There are plenty of complaints from user-error and the like, but nothing broken needing a rollback.

Hell, I'm running Windows 11 on my old rig from 2010 I just scavanged a replacement mobo for I never wanted to buy again. i5 2500K, 8GB DDR3, and an nVidia GTX 550Ti 🤣

That's a good point, actually, since at home I have both Windows and Linux computers. I totally missed the cloudfare Yubikey deal (I know, it went on for months and still) ugh. I hope we'll see some Yubikey deals one day.

Is there any way to get this to work with Linux Mint?
