The Ally invitation does literally say "Exclusively for nurses. You're pre-approved." on it, so could they write that if I wasn't actually pre-approved? That seems like it would be unethical or illegal, since the hard check would drop the credit score of the person who was supposed to be pre-approved. I don't necessarily want to waste *another* hard pull. haha!
There's other people on here who've been WF and they also got rejected. I wouldn't go with either of them. They have some bad CS . Have you looked at the interest rate? rate on WF is comparatively high. Go with Discover, Citi, Chase, something with more service.

I can't say for sure about that Ally card specifically, but if you take a look at many of the card threads around here (especially Capital One Venture which has a pre-approval tool), pre-approval doesn't necessarily mean guaranteed approval. Otherwise it would just be you're approved, right? Why even have a pre-approved concept if it just means approved. They are pre-approving you based on all available signals but approval is based on a credit check.
Anyhow, you can contact them and ask if in the case of their card for nurses it is a true "guaranteed" approval.
Of course, now I'm paranoid that I'm going to get declined again and have a second hard pull with nothing to show for it and basically have to wait like 3-6 months before applying for another card.
Turns out the Ally offer I had expired, so I guess I have to wait for another invite from them if I want to try for that card.
After you mentioned Citi, I also saw they have a DoubleCash card that's 2%.
I'm just paranoid I'll waste another hard pull with nothing to show for it and wind up having to wait like 3-6 months to try again!
I called the number provided in the email and got an automated response, it asked me for my ssn and dob but the automated system still says pending after 2 days. The email only mentioned about getting a letter in the mail with a decision after 7 business days. This is annoying, I think I would rather get denied instantly than dragging the decision. I have never had this issue with other credit cards.

Just google Wells Fargo active cash card and it's on the main part of the advertisement.
I'll be real. I got this card 8 months ago. And within a month I spent over 500$ and got the 200$ credit a couple weeks later. And 2% cash back. And I have another 7-8 months or so of zero % APR. Just recently got a credit increase which nearly doubled it.
I used to have WF bank, and I would often make specific sized payments. I since canceled WF bank and switched to a different bank and your only allowed to make 4 payments in a month.
They started flagging $30 purchases at the pet store as suspicious. Then I tried to use it to buy a gift card and the purchase was declined. I got a text and email saying the purchase was declined (which I already knew because I was there when it was declined, duh!) with no option to approve it. I had to use my AMEX which worked fine.
I went to their website to tell them how much they suck but unlike every other credit card I have there is no option to send them a message. You have to call on the phone and wait on hold which I did and finally hung up when no one picked up.
This is unacceptable and can cause problems like fines if you try to use it to pay your auto insurance and they decline it and your DMV fines you for driving without insurance.
The prudent thing for me would be to just stop using the card but my credit score is over 800 so I don't mind taking the hit to tell them to shove it up their butt and close my account.
