Gen 4 drive at around or less than Gen 3 speeds.

There are better choices on Amazon for almost the same money to get a super-fast Gen4 SSD with heatsink. (SD won't let me post the deal because the brand is banned here).

A bit curious - why does it need a heatsink? Should all NVME ssd's have a heatsink?

I want to upgrade a nuc - there's no room for a heatsink...

I have no idea why Slickdeals bans brands. I wish there was a list so I didn't waste time putting together a deal post only to have it removed in minutes.

If you search SP01KGBP44XS7005 on Amazon, you will find the product for $70.

Most NVMe SSD's need a heat sink or some method to remove the heat generated during long transfers (mostly during writes).

As with anything, the faster it goes, the more heat it puts out. If you just do office work, you could probably get away without a heatsink but these do get too hot to touch and prolonged periods will kill your SSD prematurely.

I think it will just slow down when it gets too warm, but you could buy a slower, more inexpensive cooler running SSD then.

SN770 1TB is $60, better overall performer and doesn't need a heatsink.

The Q4 isn't horrible though...

Sweet. All-around excellent drive for cheap. Too bad it can't be posted as a deal.

Yeah. Gotta wonder why that is. I had a post taken down based on seller, not brand. A fine seller, but no click-through money for SD I'm guessing. It discourages participation here.

The unmentional drive you mentioned outperforms the drive in this FP deal and it's $20 less. https://slickdeals.net/f/16558363-1tb-samsung-980-pro-pcie-m-2-gen-4-internal-ssd-w-heatsink-90-free-shipping?src=rcm_category
The 2TB version ain't bad either at $156.

Thank you for this. I'm now a bit more educated and wish I had seen your comment before purchasing other options.

Which one is $156? The unmentionable drive is $130 for 2TB now (with heatsink). I couldn't tell by your wording if you meant the Samsung or the SP.

The SP 2TB was 150+. yesterday, now the 1TB is way higher. If i2TB is 130 today I might have to buy. Thanks!
