Hi fellow SDers, wonder if you can answer this technical question for me.
At home I have a 2.5GB cable modem which is connected to WIFI router which in turn connected to my PC.
My internet plan is 1.3GBps but because my WIFI router is 10/100/1000 I don't get full speed on my PC. The PC does have 2.5 GB ethernet network adapter.
Is it possible to use a 2.5 GB switch to split after cable modem to WIFI router and to PC separately so I can get my full plan's speed on PC?
I have only one IP address and can not get a second one.

The simple answer is no -- the router needs to be plugged into the cable modem, then your devices need to be plugged into (or connected via Wifi) to the router. So your router is going to be your bottleneck.
The convoluted answer is that you might be able to do some busted-ass setup where you put your PC first in the chain, but that's going to cause you more trouble than it's worth and will likely end up costing you money in parts anyway.

No. You need a 2.5GB router. Your connection is modem>>router>>switches>>clients. Example: ASUS RT-AX88U Pro (AX6000) or TP-Link AX6000 Wi-Fi 6 Router (Archer AX80) at minimum. Or a mesh system like TP-Link Deco AX7800 Tri-Band Mesh WiFi 6 System (Deco X95). Basically, you need a router with "multi-gig" port/s.

Like others said - you'd need a new router. But without knowing your PC usage - you may never realize any speed benefits. For example: regular internet browsing and streaming on a single PC - you won't notice a difference. Many devices streaming 4k - you might.
I paid $15 over 10 years ago for the exact same thing. They should have 2.5g switches for this price by now. Just like hard drives the prices are utter nonsense. Not like an unmanaged dumb switch is some super complex device.

Been running great, so much that I forgot I even had it on my network LoL
It chills out behind my upstairs tv coming off of my Google WiFi points (wired back channel) to feed all the gaming systems.

I bought this a month ago on Amazon and paid $19.79. 😂. Not much of a savings.
