150$ would be fair price for a 3 year old router. New routers are moving to Quad band mesh network and with WiFi 7 major performance improvement, this would be very low speed in next few years.

If not in rush, now it's not the time.

I bought this previously for a 2700 sqft home, used the Ai Mesh with a Blue Cave. In the end it was underpowered for my home with many smart home devices (It currently reports 120 devices total). I eventually bought an RT-AX88U to be my main router and meshed the 86U and Blue Cave to it. After that switch its been solid.

This was $214.99 in Dec and wasn't quite the lowest SD around that time. I just missed the better deals but bit anyway. We don't power a smart home nor do we have serious gamers. But it boosted our performance enough to avoid paying for upgraded internet speed every month. 2700 sqft. Two work from home pc's, multiple streaming tv's, 4 teenagers with mobile devices etc. and I'm happy with the upgrade over our older more basic ASUS. I can't speak to what is newer and better, or if the price should be lower, but if you're already running a dinosaur like I was it's a significant upgrade.

AX88u and AX86u are not that different. The AX88u has 8 ports, which is its main benefit over the AX86u

My 88u is the pro version which has a 2.0GHz quad core processor vs the 1.8GHz dual core processor in the 86u.

Also, my 88u pro only has six network ports. Interesting that you found one with 8 ports.

There is the older RT-AX88U with 9 ports: https://www.amazon.com/RT-AX88U-D...B07HM6KJN8
Then there is the newer RT-AX88U Pro with 6 ports: https://www.amazon.com/RT-AX88U-D...B0BTTY7QFH
The newer RT-AX88U Pro has slightly different features (four 1 gig LAN ports, dual 2.5 WAN/LAN ports, slightly faster CPU) than than the older RT-AX88U (eight 1 gig LAN ports, one WAN port).

I have the AX86U in an AImesh with 2 AX55's, Gb ethernet backhauls, single SSID across all on both 2.4 & 5g bands - works great!

It is better for sure, but not MUCH. You probably won't see any real world benefit.

Disclosure: I just got AX6000 from amazon Friday.
