Yes you can trust them they've been around forever
Same, got it in a boxed set of Lucas Arts CD's from a garage sale when I was in middle school.
Got stuck at some parts of the game and decided to call the "help line" number listed in manual... and later had to explain to my parents why there was an extra $38 charge on their phone bill (double that for inflation LOL).
That crap was the 90's equivalent of in-app purchases. And yes, I had to pay my parents back.
So what I'm saying is, I feel entitled to pirate this game any time I dang-well please.

I'm stunned this didn't happen to me. I ended up buying the hint book. No idea how much it cost, but it couldn't have been $38! For that amount alone I would have snuck into each of the prequels without paying...
I think I did too. It was pretty difficult at parts, especially for younger kids.
Golden age of LucasArts SCUMM engine adventure games.

I remember having absolutely no idea what to do with that surveyor's tool. I played it again a few years ago for the first time in decades & had a great time with it. I was proud to finally beat it without using hints of any kind... but I'm pretty sure I actually still remembered solutions I got from the damn hint book!
I've heard Fate of Atlantis was good. I wonder if any of the others are worth checking out.
Fate of Atlantis is very good if you like point-and-click graphic adventures, and is a reasonably entry point if you've never played this kind of game before. It also has three different paths for the middle third of the game, adding some replay value.
The Last Crusade is another point-and-click graphic adventure. It's a little more primitive and not quite as polished as Fate of Atlantis. Worth playing if you're a fan of the genre.
Infernal Machine is a Tomb Raider-style game. I have it on Nintendo 64 and played through it. The N64 version is a little buggy, but I can't speak for the PC version. I thought it was pretty good, but it hasn't aged as well at the graphic adventures.
I don't have an educated opinion on Emperor's Tomb or the LEGO games.
I'm pretty sure I've seen Fate of Atlantis and Last Crusade sub-$2.00 before on GoG. Maybe Infernal Machine.

$1.25 each for the first 4 and $4.19 each for the Lego games.
