I just paid 259.99 for this from Amazon a week ago in the sale. It's great. Replaced my old ac86u. Just warning people, this thing is HUGE. I'm talking twice the size of my old ac86u and it lays flat. Not a problem where I have it, but it's practically a skateboard.

Mounted in my 2nd floor, this is covering my acre of yard. Haven't had to restart it yet. Supports Merlin, but I can see the beta official firmware is also supporting VLAN so that should be full releases soon.

You don't need 6E, unless you are in very crowded apartment complex with a lot of wifi signals. If you are in a single house, 6E provides zero benefit

Also, if you live in an apartment, you don't need this kind of router, its signal/coverage is so good that it is overkill.

Ive got two these in a wired mesh. Plenty fast, really good coverage. Initial WAN DHCP lease is very flaky on Frontier.

Truth. I'd expand on this that there is a lot of signal bleed so tight houses in a subdivision as well could benefit from 6E.

I have had this router for about 9 months and it's certainly the best router I have ever owned. It does everything I need and I have never had any problems. I haven't used the AiMesh feature so I can't comment on it personally but my understanding is that it makes for awesome backbone for it.

Yep my AX86u Zaku 2 already gives me way to much coverage for a traditional apartment.

Does anyone having 86U Pro also tried this one? I am seeing lower performance over longer range. So some additional real world feedback would be helpful. Source: https://www.snbforums.com/threads...000.81934/

I second this. Had it over a year, and it's been the best router that I had ever used at this price range. Highly recommended!

I have this router and that's my biggest complaint. But it was the cheapest way to get 2.5 gig ethernet to one box.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the new band with 6E have very limited range? The only benefit I can think of would be a smaller place with lots of interference in the existing bands. I recently got this router to go along with another one to create a wired mesh, loving it so far.

You are not wrong, it is shorter, and more prone to interference due to construction materials and obstructions. Range is a very relative term due to many factors but I would say on average in a open floor plan environment 6ghz has 80% of range of 5ghz but can quickly drop down when you start adding walls and at a faster pace.

Does AiMesh separate the Channels among routers or put everybody on the same Channel? In the later case, it is better to just configure other routers as APs? I have 2 RT-AC68U and the second one is in AP mode. Never tried AiMesh.

OTOH, if you have your own home network or NAS and are transferring large files between devices, 6E benefits from the added bandwidth.
