Can you trade in a 6a for a new 6a?

I was thinking about this too.

If Google continues its generous trade-in values when the 7a is released, then grab a cheap 6a now and trading it in for a 7a might be a good plan too.

They were offering $193 for the S9->P6a a couple months ago but yes it will be a massive upgrade.

Looks like there's two big changes to the 7a that people wanted in the 6a....higher refresh rate and wireless charging (albeit slow).

In addition it'll get Tensor G2 and better camera which is on par for the course. Still only 6GB of RAM though.

So the 7a is rumored to be .2" smaller, slower wireless charging, cheaper build materials, -2GB RAM compared to the Pixel 7.

Anyone know if a superfans code can stack with this promo? It seems like it can't, but just thought I'd ask if anyone has tried

edit - decided it probably isn't worth upgrading the 5a for ~$60. Already have a case for the 5a too. Also - even if I wanted to upgrade, and then sell it, I wouldn't really profit either

trading phones like baseball cards hahahahaha... that's what happens when you let the market get over priced.

to me it would be smarter to wait you'll have more money when the 7a comes out. Its a lot of work to constantly trade also but to each their own.

I have both the 6a and the 7. The fingerprint sensor is annoying on the 6a. It is not a lot better on the 7, but having the facial recognition on the 7 eliminates a lot of the frustration. If the release of the 7a is anything like the 6a, there will be better deals than this. I was able to trade in my 3a XL for the 6a at release and only pay $150 for the phone with a free pair of pixel buds.

Debating over trading in my recently repaired 5a... supposedly the 6a has a kind of bad modem, don't know if it's the same for the 5a. 5a has the black screen of death issue, and am afraid it'll happen to me again. 5a is out of support in August 2024 or something, and 6a is thru 2027. Maybe for that alone, it's worth spending ~$50 to get the 6a...

edit - based on the above comment, sounds like the 6a screen is just as fragile
I just sent my 5a off for repair for the same reason. I've been using a Pixel 7 in the meantime and so fair I'm not impressed. The one good thing I'll say about the 7 is that it's much faster than the 5a. Going back to the 5a is going to feel sluggish. That said, the in-screen fingerprint reader isn't nearly as reliable as the old one on the 5a (although it's worth noting that it does seem to get better with use, self-learning maybe?). The battery life is sub-par--especially compared to the excellent battery life of the 5a. Personally I'll probably trade-in the 7 for the Pixel 8 (I'm hoping the rumors of it being a smaller phone are true) when it comes out this fall if Google continues to offer these trade in values and keep the 5a as a backup. Anyway, I know the Pixel 7 and 6a are different phones, but them both being built on the Tensor platform maybe there's enough in common to give you idea what you can expect from the 6a.

but what if you use the 6a to trade in for the 7a?

edit: nevermind, seems like someone else beat me to that idea a few posts above

I agree with nevergoodenough here. The 6a is good, but the fingerprint sensor inconsistency makes me crazy enough that I would recommend waiting for the 7a

Seems they've worked out some kinks with firmware updates (like the phone massively overheating), but the battery life is still pretty dismal. First thing you should do in the morning when unplugging is turn on battery saver..... I got it for very cheap when 3A trade-in was worth more.... still overall MEH experience .... would gladly trade it in for a 7A depending on reviews and $$$.

re-hashing 6a stuff I had read before, but now it's personal experience: changed from the 3a to the 6a. Overall only marginally better if at all, with the #1 gripe being the ridiculously inconsistent fingerprint sensor - which can fail for things you can sometimes tie it too, like your hands being cold outdoors (failure rate 75+%), to just no reason.

It does get hot when 5G is on so I turned it off, and get the same life as the 3a = about 2+ days (at night it's on extreme battery saver & airplane mode). so apples to apples battery performance is similar.

Given I got the 6a free it was worth it, but the usability provided by 3a's back fingerprint sensor is order of magnitude better.
