64GB is overkill for 99.99% of people.
You can never have too much memory. When I went from 8GB to 32GB, it felt like I was using a brand new computer.

It's admirable to offer information about products you use and your experience with them but you shouldn't make broad claims from a limited set of data as that can be misleading. This kit of RAM isn't "top-shelf" because you don't know what dies you're getting until they arrive and run CPU-Z; if you end up with Nanya dies, they are crap for compatibility. If someone's system doesn't support XMP, and a ton of prebuilts do not, this will run at a JEDEC spec of 2133c15 which is demonstrably bad for Intel 12/13th gen and AMD Zen 2/3 and would be much worse than the 3200 kits that come stock with those systems. Top shelf kits have good JEDEC profiles and this just does not.

Just because an OS will cache system files in RAM, that doesn't mean all your applications access them and give better performance. I run 128GB in my system, but I know exactly why I needed it and purchased accordingly. A valid and indisputable reason for buying this kit is compatibility with air coolers or sandwich-layout ITX systems. If you need cooler compatibility and your mobo supports XMP and you know you need a lot of RAM and have NVMEs using HMB... then sure this is a good price for 2x32GB.

For MOST consumers, the same $120 that this memory costs would be better spent on a Gen 4 NVMe drive.
Elitist pig? Only you deserve 128gb. Some of us have money to burn and will get as many GB as we want...

I agree top shelf is a questionable claim, but this is a well respected brand and sku.

I take issue with the idea of bad timing for base configuration. The idea behind the first profile is to maximize compatibility. Many boards today seem to be iffy with xmp. You can always set memory timing manually, and many current boards have basic settings for 3200 3600 etc. They will assume things like cas 18 for 3200 but it is an easy starting point.

Faster memory may improve frame rates slightly in games or benchmarks but more RAM usually helps in daily use.

If you add this particular kit to a system with poor or no XMP support (ie lenovo) and use IGP, it's gonna be worse everyday than what came stock in the system. That's a very clear and common case where "more ram == more better" falls apart and even things like 1080p youtube videos will stutter out. Also if you are running zen 1, 2, sky/kaby/coffee lake running 2x32GB kits can also cause instability.

And I'm a corsair fanboy all my cases, PSUs and keyboards are all Corsair and have used their RAM going back to DDR1. They just aren't Crucial level when it comes to ram and they've stopped being super competitive in this space. Crucial LPX is just their value select line with a low profile heat spreader.

It's a false dichotomy to say the difference money for 64GB RAM vs 32, is better spent on a NVMe, because anyone who cares about performance already has a Gen4 NVMe on the motherboard. Hilarious non sequitur there. Likewise if Corsair's choice of the Nanya chips didn't run at 3600 MHz XMP as expected they would have gone right back to the store, but they run fine. Just every other set of Vengeance LPX. I tend to laugh at "inside baseball" comments like that. If 32 GB satisfies your needs though, get whatever you like.
