Opposite experience for me. They replaced two original floodlight cameras for me with very little hassle. Then sent me Floodlight plus cameras as replacements..

Btw: personally I've found ring CS on warrantees for things items like this to be boardline (if not outright) useless. Only go thru then if your time is worth nothing. When my first contact sensor stopped working and I called for a replacement they wanted to pass me around on the phone for over 1/2hr. Geez. They'd rather pay the salaries of multiple CS over replacing some $20~30 items? Long story short I just hung up & bought a box of new sensors. I advise you to pick up a pack or two for spare and save yourself the grief of dealing with ring CS.

if they want to play that way just 'exchange' the old one for a new one as defective. laugh out loud

Opposite for me, they have very quickly replaced defective items (sometimes even after the warranty ended) after running through basic troubleshooting steps.

How do they connect to your ring system, do they need to be part of a hub or can you just activate them like you'd do a camera with the flashing blue light

I've had a different experience the two times I used Ring Support for a warranty replacement. A camera was 41 days out of warranty but I thought I'd try them anyways. It only took a 10 minutes with some very nice support people to get a new one sent to me. They didn't even want the old one back. The second time was for one of these alarm bugs that was glitchy from the get go and they actually sent me a 2-pack instead of just replacing the one that wasn't working right. All they did was make sure I tried replacing the battery first. total time on the phone was 12 minutes for that one. I'd call that great customer service.

You have to install a ring alarm and the ring alarm connects with the door and window sensors. Then you can add your ring alarm to your ring app to control everything. The sensors themselves need that ring alarm (hub) to work.

Yes, all Ring Alarm security devices are compatible with every Base Station. You can mix and match 1st and 2nd generation Ring Alarm Contact Sensors, Motion Detectors, Range Extenders, Keypads and third-party devices with any Ring Alarm Base Station. These devices are designed to work together.

Not seeing any discounts for ring protect subscription. Does it have to be a newer one?

I've never seen a discount for the subscription itself.
