As someone who has used windows/android all their life, is it worth grabbing a Mac? Is there a steep learning curve to apple ? Can I still download random applications and games from the web? So many questions I truly don't know. I don't really edit video or photos. I'm about to go back into school after a long hiatus and pursue a different medical discipline in which I basically have to start over. Not sure if this would be better or just a windows notebook like I'm used to.

There is nothing special about Mac esp if you have a nice PC already. I'd focus putting the money on a writable tablet like ipad for note taking etc etc.
Lowest was $1499 at BestBuy. If you can wait, wait for that deal to come back or just grab the new M3 Air in June WWDC or M2 14" at maybe 1699 or 1799. After that I definitely expect any remaining stock of M1 to be sold at $1499 and before you know it, we will be in Holidays sales. Again, speculating things here I could totally be wrong on how things will go but hey if you need a laptop ASAP this is a good price.

$1599 is the lowest. Not sure when I missed that $1499 price. I do think the $1500 price tag is coming — whenever they want to get rid of any remaining stock once and for all.
Yea im pretty sure i saw it was 1499 a couple of weeks ago, but this is the new lowest that is actually available. Now to decide between this at 1600 or M2 Pro at 1800.

Disagree.
A unified ecosystem where hardware and software are built and optimized to work together with maximum effectiveness and contained in a beautiful shell and presented with a beautiful gui.
Can't find that in windows. Windows can present high quality builds but can't touch what I mentioned above.

As a lifelong windows pc user I have to respectfully disagree. The Apple Silicon is insanely fast and power efficient. You literally have to double the Y axis just how the apple chips performance compares. It is crazy how much better Apple silicon is. It was enough to get me into the stupid eco system, which I have always hated. And all of that with amazing battery performance.

Right but he is a returning college student so I assumed he was tight on money. If you got money to spare, getting into that ecosystem is top notch move.

My answer was individualized to him since he said he is a back to college student thus money might be tight.
I agree with all your points.
