I'd like a larger inverter generator than the 2000w one I currently have but I live in a neighborhood with homes very close to one another and would prefer something that is as silent as possible. The homes themselves almost create a canyon effect for sound and I want to be considerate of my neighbors. Any ideas? Guess alteratively could maybe place it in the garage with garage door open or something...

The fully enclosed igen4500 is the quietest of all at 52dB. The case is well insulated. It is highly fuel efficient and a very nice compact package with wheels and a telescoping handle. It stores inside without odors after the fuel is drained. Last Oct 11 Amazon had it for $570. The non-CO shield model could drop below $700 again. The best option is a battery backup but one large enough to run a refrigerator for three days is $$$$. When buying battery power stations look for recharge rate in the 600 watt range. Then use the gen to recharge it during the day. Do not use a gas generator in the garage even with the door open!

Another option is to run two in parallel. Advantages are easier to move them around, can use one or two depending on need. If one fails, you still have the other, even if only 2000w, better than nothing. Disadvantages seem minimal. Two fuel sources of propane? Dunno if they have regulators that can feed two at the same time from one tank.
Worth looking in to.
If your current model support running in parallel and you like it, having a second might make sense for your use case.
