I've bought literally hundreds of these cans playing USTA leagues up through 4.5 level and never had a dead ball. Sure they're not as consistent in texture and go flat quicker than other premium balls but unless your UTR is over 9 (it probably isn't) then you probably won't even notice over the course of a 3 setter. If you're a true beginner and don't have wrist/elbow issues just buy pressure less balls until you're ready to compete.

I'd say it's a pretty good deal if you don't mind basic balls. 90% of the time USTA leagues play with these. I hate it, but the home team provides the balls and the away team has to shut up and accept it.

Last time I got them Walmart B&M, almost half of them were dead, went to USTA match just to spend another $4-5 to buy another can that facility has to offer.
Afterwards I got the Wilson and so far no duds...

Weird how tennis balls are one of the only things that are not effected by inflation. They were this price 20 years ago.

Then I'm going to blame it on you for saying this out loud! Wilson balls at Walmart just went from $2.85 to $3.95. See other SlickDeals thread. Dunlop balls seem to be selling for much higher than before. The Champs at Dick's are like $5/can whereas a couple years ago at Walmart they were $2.19. ... But, I do agree that they stayed at a low price for a long time.

I didn't like these over the winter but that's just because of the cold. Some brands, to me, are better for winter and others better for summer. But last Friday I played a match and the opponent brought these. They were great! Sunday, my opponent also brought these. All three hardly bounced and we had to open a new can (Wilson's) at the end of warmup. It was strange. He plays plenty of matches so I figure he doesn't have cans laying around from a year ago. Personally, I never put much stock into comments about Penn's having duds or cans with no pressure, etc. But over the past couple of years, I have had so many cans where the pull ring comes off and I have to pry the can open that it makes me wonder what's going on because I don't remember that ever happening with tennis balls previously. However, once I got to them the balls inside have been good for the most part.

you'll def know when you get a bad one. ive had ones where there's no pop after opening the lid. and ones where there's 1 ball totally dead out of 3. and now more frequently all 3 balls are rock solid and barely bounces even after hitting it for 10 minutes.

not saying other balls dont have issues. this is from personal experience with these penns

"Extra duty" is for hard courts, regular duty is for clay courts. When it comes to arm-friendly, it's the premium balls that you want. They have thicker, softer, and more resilient rubber core.
