I looked.. it was hard to find a review online for them but I did find this

https://www.guru3d.com/articles_p...ew,19.html

and this reddit comment

https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc..._nand_tlc/

Both were of the opinion this drive is fine... great probably compared to say a 3.5 hard drive .. for storage of say files but not say to install Windows on.

I know people are probably sick of me bringing up the crucial MX500 drives over and over again here on slickdeals but they still get good reviews online and the three desktop PC's we have in the house have been booting windows off them for years without any problems

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX...11KBB&th=1

(or just search by the model number CT1000MX500SSD1 on amazon if that link doesn't work)

More expensive at $51 for a 1 TB drive but it has DRAM if this matters to you (I hesitate to say more since it set off an intense debate over whether or not you even need DRAM in the first place ... )

If it was me building a PC for example I'd be tempted to grab the cruxial MX500 as the windows/boot drive and the team group CX2 to save files onto provided 1 TB is enough (depends on if you say save a lot of video files for example or other stuff that takes up a lot of room but it would be a good "starter" data hard drive in my humble opinion while we wait for prices to fall still further on a 2 TB, 4 TB and so forth SSD drives

Of course if your motherboard supports the m.2 format drives grab one of those instead for the windows drive they're also cheaper than normal right now too

The 3.5 mechanical drives are.. well not as good as the SSD's but falling in price too.. maybe grab one of those put it in say a sata enclosure and use that for backups of Windows and your files ... you'll see slickdeal alerts on the 3.5 drives too ... or if you're sure the size of your windows installation plus files will not go over 1 TB (seems kind of unlikely to me in the long run but anyways) grab this cx2 drive and use that for backups instead.

Do solid state drives degrade over time? I have a five year old one in a five year old pc. Should I upgrade to a new one? It was my main drive and I wrote 100s of terabytes to it

You can check the health of the drive with CrystalDisk software

My first SSD ever lasted me literally over ten years. Still works fine but replaced by bigger faster drives

Sometimes it's hard to tell when people are being serious or just kidding around here, but I can point you to a 128 GB Somnambulist brand SSD for $5.71 on Aliexpress. Free 12 day shipping with $3 credit if it arrives late, free returns. PM me if interested. I can vouch for this brand name, I bought several of their 64 GB SD cards at $1.99 each that test at nearly 3X the rated write speed for a U3 card. Possibly you could find that 128 GB SSD even lower than that if you have their Ali phone app and do your own digging. It's also $9.99 on Amazon Prime.

Xfinity charges $10/50 GB if you go over 1 TB each month. I have no idea how people are filling their 5 TB SSDs.
