Do not buy any La Crosse product. Their products do not last long. Their warranty support is almost non-existent. If you are so lucky that you could contact them, their warranty process is difficult that it 'd make you feel put off to pursue. Acurite products last longer and are generally in the same price range.

La Crosse Technology make okay/decent weather stations for beginners.

do note though that the displays have a limited viewing angle and the sensors will break either right before or right after the warranty is over.

i had a wind speed sensor break and start reading wayyy off the chart but the weather station was still in warranty so they sent me a replacement wind speed sensor in about a week though that was several years back.

when i received the replacement wind speed sensor i boxed up/stored the La Cross and purchased a AccuRite Iris, then a ambient weather 2000, and AccuRite Atlas (walmart special a couple of xmas back). it did purchase a ambient weather 5000 recently for around $400, but ended up returning it as i felt it was kind of flimsy for the cost. maybe one day i can afford a davis to add to my backyard weather array.

the way to go now if you can afford it is davis > ambient weather (2000 or 5000 model) > AccuRite Iris/Atlas.

someone always says this in the weather array threads. weather stations are for hobbiest and you get your spot on weather instead of 10 miles away at the airport and/or tv station. though keep using your phone as this would be over your head.

Counter to this, I have had an older product very similar to this going on 10 years enduring sometimes brutal outdoor conditions for the sensor without any issues at all.

Anecdotes will only take you so far so take mine or anyone elses stories with a grain of salt. Slick dealers are usually not experts..

"do note though that the displays have a limited viewing angle"

I have found that the color display viewing angle and distance are better than the black and white. That said, my OLD black & white La Crosse has served flawlessly for years, except that one of the remote sensors became finicky. Cannot comment on the longevity of their newer ones.

Yeah, this one i bought at sam's for 24.99 in club last week has terrible angles. Black and white. The atomic setting is neat though.

29.99 reg price 24.99 clearance. bought the last 2.

one annoying thing is the battery compartment doesnt close with 3 rechargeables in it, since theyre slightly bigger

No Anemometer.
No Barometric Pressure.
No Udometer.
No Anemometer.

This is a clock that has a temp display. Not a weather station. If you are planning on buying this as a gift for a budding meteorologist, skip it. They'll be very disappointed.

We had a Brookstone device that gave 5-day weather reports. Weather was broadcast by Ambient weather signal. We loved it for years. Ambient is not in business anymore. Anything else similar? Magnetic attachment.

Couldn't agree more. Not sure I bought not one, not two but, three atomic clocks from La Crosse, one lasted 6 months or so then it stopped syncing DST time and I am still using it with manual update, even though I put it out literally on the patio for two days.
Another one never synced at all even outdoors. The third one was good for just 3-4 months.
Not good to spend any money on them anymore.
Customer service never replied.
Horrible products.

I'm more interested in the weather further away from me than what I can step outside and observe myself. Weather Underground for the win.

It doesn't hurt that I'm also 1mi from an executive airport I can pull data from.

Agreed these are garbage.

If your neighbor has one, you can always just receive their reading using rt_433 software and an SDR. Pretty fun!

They work fine. Been using for the last 5 yrs at least. Did have to replace a sensor that was crapping out.

I use this [amazon.com] SDR, but there are several similarly priced options.

I find my local temperature is often very different from that predicted by Accuweather on my phone.
