But performance aside, this is a great value. The motherboard is worth around $200, the 12700k $300, and RAM $40. So $540 of product for $350.
The processor will still chew up anything you throw at it and I have the z790 version of that board for my 13900k and it is wonderful; packed with good connections and options.
I'd wait for matching RAM to go on sale and then buy at least one more stick but being that RAM is so cheap now I would rather get three and max out the board.
This setup calls for an air cooler if you want stability. I've got a Noctua NH-U12A for mine as these professors are very hot and hard to tame but that fan is like half the price of this system and I think you can be aas with a lower cost one. I would look at the Noctua D-15.
Get the biggest GPU you can afford and throw it into a Fractal case (I love the Torrent) and you're not only good to go, but you'll lead the pack for years to come.

I also "upgraded" my motherboard, around the beginning of the pandemic. In my previous post I cautioned that you might find yourself in a pinch if you intend to keep this one a dozen years too, and your MB fritzes out and you need to find am 1700 socket DDR3 board maybe 5-7 years from now. That's what happened to me with my DDR3+Sandy Bridge board, it died, and when I started looking for a replacement, it looked bleak, I thought I'd be semi-forced into an unplanned new build. Fortunately, a friend still had an old board lying around, he gave it to me for free as it had been so long that he wasn't sure it still worked (it did, whew!). If such a thing happens again in 2030
CPU - Intel Corei5-13500 (I prefer integrated GPU for backup) $247
MB - Asrock B760M-HDV (DDR4) $109
2x8=16 GB DDR4-PC3200 $35
Total cost: $391
Cost works out to be about the same since the bundle doesn't include CPU cooling.

To your point about replacement motherboards, my Z68 is so old now that people want around $70 for a proper replacement from a decent brand. It appears that used hardware prices drop predictably with age, but at some point they U-turn and go back up. I did buy a couple Sandy/Ivy Bridge Dell motherboards on eBay for less than $15 apiece including shipping, and they're good quality. You just have to put up with some eccentricities to get them to work.

If something happens to your board or CPU a couple years down the line, now you are either gonna have to look for an old gen replacement (used on ebay?) or toss this RAM, because future boards and sockets aren't gonna support DDR4, just like all the boards of recent memory didn't support DDR3.
