Absolutely. While it is a generation old, it's still a top 5 CPU for gaming, and more than enough multi-threaded performance for most users. This build should easily last you 5+ years.

But performance aside, this is a great value. The motherboard is worth around $200, the 12700k $300, and RAM $40. So $540 of product for $350.

As a 13900k/3090/DDR5 owner, if I didn't have the need for what I have now, I would have picked this up in a heartbeat (maybe two!).
The processor will still chew up anything you throw at it and I have the z790 version of that board for my 13900k and it is wonderful; packed with good connections and options.
I'd wait for matching RAM to go on sale and then buy at least one more stick but being that RAM is so cheap now I would rather get three and max out the board.
This setup calls for an air cooler if you want stability. I've got a Noctua NH-U12A for mine as these professors are very hot and hard to tame but that fan is like half the price of this system and I think you can be aas with a lower cost one. I would look at the Noctua D-15.
Get the biggest GPU you can afford and throw it into a Fractal case (I love the Torrent) and you're not only good to go, but you'll lead the pack for years to come.

With reviews of ASRock boards not being very good (e.g. on Hardware Unboxed) for the past couple years, you may wish to research a lot before buying one. Hopefully, they've turned the corner and improved their boards by now. A 12900K on one of their boards is especially worrisome if their design is still as poor as it's been in the recent past.

....One thing that that purchase taught me was not to cheap out too much on the CPU, because that was the only thing I upgraded over the last ten years.....
Wow, you milked your 2011-era components far more than me! I'm not a gamer, but I also couldn't just stick with a GPU from 2011-12, and I also upgraded from hard disk to SSD and doubled my memory from 8gb to 16gb at some point. Plus new display(s) a couple years ago.

I also "upgraded" my motherboard, around the beginning of the pandemic. In my previous post I cautioned that you might find yourself in a pinch if you intend to keep this one a dozen years too, and your MB fritzes out and you need to find am 1700 socket DDR3 board maybe 5-7 years from now. That's what happened to me with my DDR3+Sandy Bridge board, it died, and when I started looking for a replacement, it looked bleak, I thought I'd be semi-forced into an unplanned new build. Fortunately, a friend still had an old board lying around, he gave it to me for free as it had been so long that he wasn't sure it still worked (it did, whew!). If such a thing happens again in 2030 Big Grin I feel more secure in finding a new/reliable DDR5 board vs DDR4 ...

Should I get this bundle, or this?
CPU - Intel Corei5-13500 (I prefer integrated GPU for backup) $247
MB - Asrock B760M-HDV (DDR4) $109
2x8=16 GB DDR4-PC3200 $35
Total cost: $391

Cost works out to be about the same since the bundle doesn't include CPU cooling.

This deal is better. You can get an awesome Thermal right Peerless Assassin 120 for $40 on Amazon.

Whoops, I did upgrade to SSD of course, and I did buy a used GPU (RX 470 8GB) while I had the Ivy/Sandy Bridge as my primary rig. I was running two 2013-era HD 7850s in Crossfire up until 2019 or so because most of the older games I liked supported Crossfire brilliantly. Like nearly 100% FPS scaling in Prey. :-o

To your point about replacement motherboards, my Z68 is so old now that people want around $70 for a proper replacement from a decent brand. It appears that used hardware prices drop predictably with age, but at some point they U-turn and go back up. I did buy a couple Sandy/Ivy Bridge Dell motherboards on eBay for less than $15 apiece including shipping, and they're good quality. You just have to put up with some eccentricities to get them to work.

Can someone recommend a CPU cooler for this bundle that is available at Microcenter?

I got a Deepcool AG400 CPU cooler. Manager discounted it to $10.99 for me instead of allowing me to use the $25 off first purchase coupon. ($15 off)

Interesting thought process ... I started from possibly the exact same place as (Sandy Bridge i7-3770 -- which was an upgrade I made from the original i3, and DDR3), but for me it was a no-brainer to pay $200 more ($550) to get their deal that they were advertising at the same time (even on the same web site page!) which has 1) a better processor (13700k), 2) 32g DDR5 (twice as much memory) and 3) a z790 board. Waiting for DDR5 to become affordable was almost half the reason that I waited this long to build a new machine ... why wait ten years since DDR4 came out, then finally buy it literally at its end of life?

If something happens to your board or CPU a couple years down the line, now you are either gonna have to look for an old gen replacement (used on ebay?) or toss this RAM, because future boards and sockets aren't gonna support DDR4, just like all the boards of recent memory didn't support DDR3.
Is this still live?
