It's way better than a Chromebook. Make sure you modify the power limit and graphics settings in bios (watch ETA Prime youtube vid) to double the performance. You can't beat this value for the cpu and 16gb (soldered) ram and 500gb m2 ssd. Free upgrade to Win11. Limited bloatware. Refurbished units pop up on walmart for ~$260 of the 14" model.
I bought the 15" model last October for $300 (has numeric keypad), works great. The webcam is poor quality. Speakers are okay. The screen is a decent ips (no issues with it falling out like some reported in previous deal threads). They keyboard is nothing special. A tad heavy but it uses metal/limited plastic so build quality is average. The battery only lasts ~3hrs unplugged w battery saver browsing web/watching youtube/movies.
It has older wifi 5 & bt 5. One thing I noticed though is my HDMI output can only do 4k at 30fps, not 60fps so not really watchable. 1080p HD looks fine hooking up to TV though. I'm not sure about the usb-c output resolution.
It has a hatch in the back to add a backup m2 ssd drive (Leven JM600 1tb $40 off amazon).
Same price during Christmas season, several times. I bought in December & am pleased. Of note, problems w/ fingerprint reader was mentioned by several people & I affirm that. Repped.

Walmart has 12th generation I7 Gateway laptop on sale now for $398. Yes it's extra $120, but it's touchscreen, CPU according to tests is 20-40% faster, iGPU is also more efficient. I don't know if we can add more ram, cause this one has only 8gb (ddr4 or ddr5 nowhere mentioned). No reviews for this model anywhere yet.
RAM is soldered for all of these Gateways. The i5-1235U is only 10% faster and not worth sacrificing half the memory. The i7-1255U should be faster than i5-1235U but the CPUs tend to underperform in these Gateways.
Battery life is good with i5-1135G7 but battery life is much lower with i5-1235U and would be even lower with i7-1255U.
Usually a older cpu with dgpu MX130(2GB) is Better than latest igpu Itis.
MX130 on $200 dell gets 60fps on GTA5, 30fps on BF5. Itis gets 75fps GTA5.M2200 on $300
Same for an old 1080M, 2080M. lots of value for dollar running hot.
NO, no web cam privacy slide with either of the 2 that I purchased. And again, have never been a Dell fan, never had a Dell, but have to say it was a lot of computer for just $200.
Yes absolutely. I am not sure why I really bought it other than I liked the built-in Hello camera login. I don't really need another computer but it was such a good deal I wanted to buy one!

In theory the i5-1235U should be 20% faster than the i5-1135G7. But if you compare the performance in the two reviews I linked, it's closer to 10%. For example the graphics is same performance not faster. I5-1235U is a downgrade since memory is cut in half (soldered so you can't add more) and battery life is reduced about 20%.
Not to mention the difference in fan noise. GWTN141-10 (i5-1135G7) is quiet at 25 to 30 dB while GWTC51427 (i5-1235U) is 40 dB.
As an owner, my only complaint is that the exterior gets scuffed easily. Not sure if anyone else with this one has the same complaint, but of the 3 different laptops we have, this is the newest but showing the most exterior wear. The material can scratch off.
That being said, I have no other complaints. It's portable, light, has a good keyboard to type on. The memory and processing power are in-line with the use-case for this laptop class. I don't think you'll find much better for the price.
Did yours have the option to upgrade to Windows 11?
Description mentions "when available".
I have not tried it, but windows nagged me saying I can do windows 11 earlier.
Likewise the website for the gateway is limited (I am not impressed but it is serviceable for my needs) and I am bringing up the website for it has windows 11 drivers for the hardware and some of the drivers are different than 10 and 11.
So intellectually I can say windows 11 is a future option, but it is a beyond I have not attempted and I can not promise / be like Virgil and say it is a good or bad experience and if everything in windows 11 works fine or not,
=====
I really like my laptop, I got it for a good price at $240 with tax and 2 year warranty when the Walmart B&M was clearance out the old models and thus YMMV / local price. I would not have paid $450 for it

Given that it's still very snappy. Have 2 of them and work just fine.

I have this laptop and I like it, but the camera is poor like most laptops. Invest in an external one.
