It's way better than a Chromebook. Make sure you modify the power limit and graphics settings in bios (watch ETA Prime youtube vid) to double the performance. You can't beat this value for the cpu and 16gb (soldered) ram and 500gb m2 ssd. Free upgrade to Win11. Limited bloatware. Refurbished units pop up on walmart for ~$260 of the 14" model.

I bought the 15" model last October for $300 (has numeric keypad), works great. The webcam is poor quality. Speakers are okay. The screen is a decent ips (no issues with it falling out like some reported in previous deal threads). They keyboard is nothing special. A tad heavy but it uses metal/limited plastic so build quality is average. The battery only lasts ~3hrs unplugged w battery saver browsing web/watching youtube/movies.

It has older wifi 5 & bt 5. One thing I noticed though is my HDMI output can only do 4k at 30fps, not 60fps so not really watchable. 1080p HD looks fine hooking up to TV though. I'm not sure about the usb-c output resolution.

It has a hatch in the back to add a backup m2 ssd drive (Leven JM600 1tb $40 off amazon).

Just to let everyone know the ssd drive is sata. Only 550mb per sec transfer.
Given that it's still very snappy. Have 2 of them and work just fine.

  2. 4K is 3840x2160 for my TV. Also tried 4096x2160, same performance.
  3. Built-in HDMI can do 60Hz, USB-C to HDMI can only do 30 Hz (not sure on this one. could have been my adapter that's limited it 30Hz)
  4. does get pretty warm (not uncomfortably hot) streaming both monitors at same time with the lid closed. Should leave lid open and raise the rear or buy a laptop cooling stand. Streaming one 4K/30Hz/60Hz is still warm, but much cooler than with 2 streams running. imo, should get a FireTV Cube or Roku for your main streaming device.
  5. about 10% cpu with one 4K/30Hz stream.
  6. audio is muted for a few seconds at start of 4K stream with USB-C, don't remember if same for build-in HDMI. Probably same. Then no drop out afterwards. No delay with Windows sounds.

I would just be using this for work related spreadsheets. Thank you for the info. I didn't realize that at max, you could only have 2 screens at once:

- 1 screen = Laptop LCD & External HDMI (both showing only one screen)
- 1 screen = USB-C to Monitor

I take it to run 3 different screens with this laptop (one on the LCD, one on the HDMI monitor and one on the USB-C monitor) I would have to get the external bricks with their own power source?

Sorry. My mistake about the built-in HDMI and LCD are treated as one. Windows set them up as "Duplicate these displays" when I plugged in a monitor to the build-in the first time when usually it would set them as "Extend these displays". Maybe it had something to do with the lid was closed. Plus something in an old laptop review that I read before getting this laptop stuck in my mind. Something about the HDMI port and the LCD screen use shared memory so only one monitor can be used. Now how do I edit my previous response?!?

Anyway. Yes you can have all three screens. I streamed native resolution to all three at the same time and still no drop frames.

And I think the reason why the refresh rate on my USB-C to HDMI adapter is limited to 30Hz may have been because it's a HDMI 1.4 adapter (Dell DA20u. DA20 is HDMI 2.0. I couldn't find the spec for DA20u, but made in 2021 so should be HDMI 2.0, but unsure). We know the USB-C monitor output is DP and 11th gen Iris is capable of 4K@60Hz for DP and 120Hz for eDP (not sure which one the USB-C uses). So either get a DP adapter or a HDMI 2.0 adapter and you should get at least 4K@60Hz out of USB-C.

If you got the cash, I think the dock should be better than adapters. There must be a reason why my old company's IT choose docks, but they do also provide the adapters for mobile usage.

Just got the laptop, windows 11 pre-installed, black version. Decent laptop, but there is a pretty bad light bleed on the upper left corner that gets better if I flex the corner a little bit. Not bad with light backgrounds, but not too great with dark backgrounds. I've placed another order, planning to return one. Also, the battery was dead on arrival. Took 20 minutes to be able to turn on the thing.

I got my laptop and there is backlight bleeding at the top left corner, it's visible only during boot screen or you can use below website. I would recommend each one of you to test yours. Gateway support is a joke and they would take more than 2 weeks for a replacement as they have to go through an approval process

Mine doesn't have light bleed either. I do have IPS glow though at the upper left corner as the other poster. I use a light bleed test video from you tube for this test. I can tell it's IPS glow bc the color changes and totally disappears when I view the screen the different angles. IPS glow is pretty common and mine is not bad at all. Especially at this price.

I see mixed messaging on whether the M.2 slot where the current SSD is located supports NVME. Some people say you can move the current Sata M2 to the other slot and then you can use an nvme M2 SSD where the original was.

Has anyone successfully installed an NVME in the original slot in this laptop?
