I wanted to like this laser, but design and QC are not professional grade. The milled base on my copy is slightly out of alignment with the vials, which makes a line 16' away off by close to 1/2".

It is not self-leveling, which is not a problem in itself, but it means that you have to level by eye with the vials. The vials are small and difficult to read. The air bubble is too small between the lines, and the vials are recessed in a way that often keeps them in shadow. My eyes are very good, and as levels go, this is one is very hard to read.

Toolsmith makes a version of this that feels like a toy but works. I really hoped the Bosch version would be an improvement. I own dozens of levels, dozens of Bosch tools, and maybe 10 lasers and use these tools daily.

This one is a paperweight. Not a deal at any price.

Just curious, I agree that 1/2" off at 16' is too much - also depends on it is being used for, but what has been your "reference" method or device to compare it against ? Thanks

Btw, Amazon has now price matched. Looks like the Lowe's pricing is no longer valid.

My primary self-leveling lasers are two PLS 180g's, the now discontinued version. I also own and use Spectra, Hilti, Makita, and Bosch lasers. Two of my coworkers have Stabila lasers. The units get checked against eachother fairly often whenever they are in use together for layout. I've had a couple units over the years fall out of calibration, and without dusting off my geometry brain, it's really straightforward to put two or three pendulum lasers on a table and see whether they shoot parallel lines.

Most of my box levels are Stabila. I never have to check them but still do sometimes. I checked the GLL1P against a Stabila box level for the vial and the base, and I checked the laser projection down a wall against a PLS 180g.

With my copy, the vial was aligned with the laser, but neither was aligned with the base. If the design and vials had been better quality, I might have bought a second or third, looking for one that was in-spec, but I found it was also terrible in use. There are structocast plastic levels that are cheaper, more legible, and more accurate.

OK, great. Appreciate the answer - Spectras are considered some of the high-quality lasers but I always have a curiosity about the reference that are measured against. In your case, since you have multiple different brands, your judgment is fairly close to being spot on.
