Personally, I would rather buy new for $85 more. Saving 8.5% in exchange something that's been opened and used... nah.

I would be very careful with 7/9 slim series from 2022 and 2023.
Especially with Best Buy Open Box. I am pretty sure they no longer test anything and log any return reasons anymore

Back to Slim Pro 7 (i or X)...Look up the infamous black screen issues. Computer turns on, fans, keyboard lights will turn on but it will not power the screen - pre/post BIOS, does not matter.

I bought a brand new one from Costco, in day two, the screen went black. Multiple youtube videos, hard resets later (including opening it up and disconnecting the battery) nothing.

Sadly, returned, Looked gorgeous, perfect size between 13.3 and 16", but was fatally flawed...

I echo all this. Downright awful machine. And don't forget they updated the BIOS and broke DP-alt

This is a brand new model from April, so those issues are not on this version.

I always hear people talk poorly about the Slim 7 Pro X from Costco but I personally have only experienced the black screen 1 time in the entire year.

The computer runs flawless for me and I've daily driven it for almost a year. I guess I am just lucky and didn't get a dud.

Also, yes, Best Buy lets you return for any reason. They usually don't even open the box to check the item inside.

I enjoyed my Slim 7 Pro X for a few months, but it wasn't quite the unicorn I was expecting (screen and power and battery all good, but not great). I did have a couple of closed-lid drains, and a couple of the display adapter glitches, too.

But this 2023 model doesn't seem to be an upgrade: same GPU, less hz and lower resolution, not much difference from Ryzen 6th to 7th-gen... Am I missing something?

I see the 2023 as a downgrade more than anything. I won't be upgrading personally unless they come out with a similar spec to the 2022 model.

Hmm i have the costco one, still within the 90 day return period. Is it worth switching to this for the extra 2gb VRAM and newer Ryzen? I'm having no issues with my 6900HS I really like the form factor and power of this laptop. Infact, i havent found anything that even competes with this build quality screen and weight with a 3050 for this price.

This feels like Lenovo dialed down the screen and stayed with the 3050 (6gb, but still) in order to drop this from a $1,400 premium machine to a $1,000 mid-ranger. It's annoying when you see a manufacturer slack off, but there must be a financial reason to do it.

This new Ryzen still is based on old Zen3 architecture and am pretty sure yours would be faster than this (this is my assumption so better search for cpu comparison on notebookcheck etc)

Nope.
The 7735HS is a rebranded 6800HS which is slower than your 6900HS.
The coding of the real new generation of AMD processors end in 40 or 45. Example, 7840HS.
I don't think 2GB extra would make a difference with a 3050 except in unique scenarios that I can't think off at the moment.

Only thing of notice is that Notebookcheck reviewed this this new 2023 model and it did achieve much longer battery life numbers.. the new 3050 has 6gb of memory, the same core count as a 3050ti, but a slower memory bus.. roughly placing it about the same speed of the 4gb Ti end of the day.

Differences otherwise (from the Costco 2022 model):

Lower res, dimmer screen, 90hz instead of 120hz
No Advanced Optimus (also no mux switch)
2023 has USB 4.0 but 2022 did not (Reason I returned mine) so this can be a big game changer for some people
2023 has 4 microphones instead of 2
2023 has 4 speakers instead of 2
2023 has slightly larger battery
2023 is slightly heavier now
2023 7735hs R7 cpu roughly same speed as 2022 R9 but possibly could be slower
2023 at the sale price of 999 is a much better bang for dollar overall

My opinion is that the 999 sale price of the Best Buy is a better bang than the once 1399 or whatever price the Costco one on sale was. I dont remember the absolute lowest price the 2022 Costco model got down to.
