Pioneer Elite - VSX-LX305 9.2 Channel Network AV Receiver - Black - Open Box $578.99

Pretty insane deal albeit an open box unit. It's the same unit as a 7100 Onkyo and a DRX-3.4 Integra. Comes with DIRAC Live, IMAX Enhanced and all the bells and whistles.

Only thing I think it's missing would be the 9 channel pre-out, but that's really a personal preference anyway.

Of course, it's location dependent, the closest unit to me is $628.99, but you can get an excellent unit shipped for $678.99

Refurbed Onkyo 7100 is going for $779.00 [onkyousa.com]

Is $650+ pricing still considered slick for this AVR? Or is it just meh? Trying to decide if i should keep waiting or pull the trigger. Have a 5.2.4 setup going in the basement and only have a 7 channel costco yamaha.
If you want to try DIRAC, this is the cheapest option I've seen.

Also the cheapest option for 9 channels currently. Anything higher than 7 fetches a substantial premium.

I didn't believe you till I looked at the refurb prices on 9-channels on Accessories4Less, cheapest was a SR6013 for $899.

So I did a good job finding this lol

I found this deal too, just forgot to post when I saw the Yamaha deals. Wink

I tried to get an Onkyo 7100 for $659 open box last week, basically the non-elite version of this receiver (although the 7100 has a component input, which the 305 doesn't have), but it was out of stock the whole week. I'm glad I waited, because I got the Aventage A4A for $779 open box this week to replace an Onkyo 6050.

I actually have a 305 in my basement, and I like it, but feel the Yamaha has slightly better sound, more features, pre-outs, and much better build quality (it weighs 35 frickin pounds). This is still a great deal deal if you need 9 channels or have to check out DIRAC. It's unlikely to get better than this.

I wish the A4A had 9 channels. I'm expanding to 5.2.4 from 5.2.2 and this would have been at the top of my list especially since I can get a OB for $700 near me.

Also one big difference I don't hear enough about the 305 and the 7100 is the warranty difference. The Onkyo has 2 years versus 3 for the Pioneer.

I would get the Pioneer just for that fact alone.

Yeah, I don't need 9.2 (I got the 305 for $839 new almost a year ago, and that was a good deal, so I bit), but, as you said before, most 9.2 receivers command a big premium. The A6A is a whopping $1959 open box, while the A4A is only $779. Crazy…

Unfortunately mine was poorly packed and damaged when it arrived this morning. Now they seem to be out of stock since BB cancelled my replacement order. Had to get a refund.

People after Dirac will consider this slick, without it it wouldn't be IMO.
The reason others cost more, they have preouts and brand preference.

Comes down to what you want and or need.

Compared to 1k everywhere else? I'd say yes. But read some of the cons others have written if you're an audiophile and make your own conclusions from there.

Those little Onkyo's don't need that amount of power. You'd blow them with 110RMS lol.

That said, either of the receivers is overkill for your speakers. Quite honestly, your speakers may be more due for an upgrade than your receiver (unless you are adding channels etc).
Can I make it work with the speakers I currently have? Maybe just keep the volume down? I'm not going to get a better deal than this and my tz-720 is dying a slow, painful death, one HDMI port at a time. This is probably the closest I can do to future proof at a price I can afford. Also the front L, R and C are 6 ohm,130w each. I don't know a lot about impedance. Will 6 ohm speakers work. Does this avr output at 8, does it convert or do you have to match the exact impedance?

Received today, doesn't look in excellent condition. Going to return. Is it worth ordering again?

How do they not show power specs on the website, am I blind? Will this drive 4 ohm speaker inefficient speakers?

Damn, just looked at the specs for my rz720 and it has 110w per channel. 100w seems kind of low for a unit at this price.
There will be no discernible difference between 100 and 110 watts.
