Don't look at someone's phone and judge them if they are rich or poor. There are rich people with old cheap phones and there are definitely "poor" people who paid +$1k on phones and paying high monthly plans that they really shouldn't be.

Ummm. You do realize that the phone works during the first months with calls, texts and data? Some people would be happy to use unlimited data in that first month. All those apps, games, camera, etc. work with or without service. Lot of people use multiple phones. I do. Lot of people have lots of wifi outside their home especially with some cable service they may use.

* I have a Pixel 6a and I do like it but it has its cons. The battery life isn't that good and the screen is little bit too small at 6.1" for my liking for browsing chrome/youtube so I prefer to use my other larger screen phones with the big battery at home or my Samsung tablet at home when browsing chrome or YouTube. For me to use my Pixel 6a for browsing chrome/YouTube is wasting battery on a phone that already doesn't have solid battery life and just not that good of experience on 6.1" screen vs my larger screen phones. Answer? Large screen phone with solid battery or tablet.

* 6 months goes by quicker than you think. People aren't like upgrading their phones after every 2 months and it is "so needed" to upgraded from their phone. Patience is a virtue especially for Slickdealers who know a good bang for the buck phone deal or knows money saving tips on deals.

for those new to M deals.

suggest

read wiki

lots of good info

trust me

here is sample:

To have the phone unlock automatically in 180 days (6 months)

You need to have activated the phone 180 days ago.
You do not. repeat do NOT have to pay for service 180 days

the above has been true for most every metro deal in the past.
both apple and android

Most people get the 1 month service.
Then simply place phone in a drawer .
wait 6 months.

The sim can be left in phone or stored safely.
It does not matter, as long as you DO NOT THROW AWAY THE SIM until you get a confirmed unlock

Phone should/will unlock in ~180 days + 6 -10 days.

best chance of success as follows:
During the ~6 month wait.
YOU can use as wifi device.
keep sim in phone.
when getting near the 180 day , have phone connected to wi-fi.
Try to unlock the device, once 1-2 days from day 180 onwards.

- None of us knows when Metro is going to close this unofficial loophole, .
-However this has been in effect with Metro phone deals for last ~4-5 years

Exercise your own judgement,

I activated mine on 5/10/23, but the email I got from Metro says my actual activation date is 5/11/23. It could be closer to 181 days until unlocking happens because of that day delay, that puts me at 11/7/23.

Activated on 5/8/23. Checked and got it Unlocked around 00:30am CDT 11/4/23. Took a few seconds. Took out Metro SIM, put in Qlink SIM, works fine. Still boots up with Metro splash screen. Will reset it later to see if that will get rid of the Metro splash screen. Going back to bed.

You mean your local 00:30am? Did you get chance to check around 11:15pm? I am curious if metro is using EST time zone or other time zone.

I was waiting to do it at 11:15pm CDT (local) 11/3/23 but fell asleep. Woke up at 00:25am CDT 11/4/23 and did it.

Please let us know if you are able to get rid of metro thing after reset. It's annoying.

I reset the phone but it still boots up witht the metro splash screen. If it really bothers me, I will look into flashing it with a non-Metro firmware, but I'll leave it alone for now.

good info..thanks

btw...i have noticed for these metro phones.

even when locked, if u were to put in a TM sim, the phone will revert to a TM phone in terms of splash screen etc.

of course will not work until UL.
but still will recognize the TM sim and act like a TM phone

with other (non TM or M ) sim,
it looks like it keeps metro (or tm whichever was in last) splash

Samsung U firmware is switching splash screens and other carrier-specific options based on the SIM card inserted in the device.

Those who want stock Samsung experience should look into switching their U device to U1 firmware.

Is there a web site with a "cookbook" on how to flash firmware of a Samsung phone? I did some searching but each site had just bits of info. I worked with mainframe OS for 35 years and have flashed the Android OS on a Pixel 4a to step down from Android 12 to 11. Haven't messed with a Samsung yet.

I usually look up how-to pages on XDA developers for this sort of info, but you do often have to gather info from a couple of guides to get something done.

Received the phone yesterday and have been testing it today. Pretty solid overall, scrolling is smooth and the battery went from 100% to 81% after a solid 90 minutes of use. This feels like the discount store version of an S23.
