Don't buy this. Don't accept one for free. The Axis is ungodly slow, and a royal pain to use. It also doesn't work with anything but the Matterport app.

Source: I've been a professional Matterport photographer for six years, and bought one when they came out. Returned it the next day.

I've seen Matterport tours of homes, etc, they were great. What's a good alternative?

Matterport tours themselves are very impressive. Buy a used Pro2 camera from Adorama, or a compatible 360 camera. It will be light years faster than the axis.

It's a matterport device. Why wouldn't it work with anything but the matterport app?

If you scan in 'Simple' mode (don't adjust the angle to get full ceiling and floor) rather than 'Complete' mode, it is essentially as fast as the Pro2 camera and negligibly slower than a 3D camera.

This is a decent deal even if you throw the Axis in the trash. The $124 is roughly the cost of the included hosting plan and it comes with $100 gift card and a tripod.

Not negligibly slower--orders of magnitude slower. A 360 camera can take a shot in <1 second compared to 30ish seconds per shot with this or a Pro2. When you're shooting an entire house, that extra 29 seconds x 50-70 shots really adds up.

Yea these are terrible. Your phone will overheat, you need to do multiple scans in the same spot. Not worth it.

Just an FYI, our Bundle arrived without the 12-Month Starter Bundle code. Has turned into a hassle of back-and-forths with Mettaport and Adorama. Apparantly you should receive something that resembles a Credit Card with the 12-Month Bar Code on it. Adorama has been responsive, so hopefully they will come through...
