I received my 6a from Metro and can confirm that it won't work with TMobile sim out of the box. I've tested with my T-Mobile sim card and couldn't get services.

I would eat the additional net $10 to avoid all that crap and get a new number. No AF, $20 cheaper plan. Authorized dealers are 90% scammers.

So I have both A54 and S21FE. I just played with both more today and must say, if not considering battery, s21FE is just better in almost every aspect. Thinner bazels, more responsive fingerprint sensor, better/juicer colors and viewing angles, better camera, mega super-duper stereo speakers (A54 also has good ones but s21 has better ones). I had Pixel7 and honestly, I hated the screen. Had terrible headaches just from staring at P7, so I assume with P6a it would be the same (if not worse). Therefore, if you have extra $50 and want some decent camera and overall smooth experience go with s21fe, but if battery really meters go with a54. However, if you just want the cheapest option and like making photos, go with P6a. Just my 2 cents

Once unlocked, the eSIM will work overseas as long as the overseas carrier supports eSIM and the phone has the bands they use.
Have you successfully used esim overseas with carrier-unlocked or specifically Metro-unlocked Android phones? I know there would be no problem with factory unlocked esim capable Android models.
At least in US for now all esims I've tried ( Verizon esim free trial, T-Mobile esim free trial, Cricket free trial with esim, Visible esim, USMobile esim, Tello esim) are very esim friendly for unlocked iPhones (XR and up), but very very picky on Android phones, lots of models are not supported even if Android phone itself esim capable, and IMEI needs to pass of course. We know that Metro A54 can't pass Verizon IMEI check, can't pass AT&T IMEI check either (may change since I see A53 is in ATT whitelist), so definitely no esim for A54 on Verizon and ATT. I have no experience how Android phone esim is handled by others for international use, do they check Android phone IMEI first? Support certain Android models? etc.

FYI...My unlocked 2022 Motorola Stylus 5G didn't pass the Verizon/US Mobile IMEI test during sign up. However, the SIM card worst fine in the Motorola after activating the SIM with my Iphone SE 3.
This is what I'm wondering. I currently have an unlocked moto stylus 2021 working with a NET10 (Verizon mvno) sim card. I moved that sim from another moto phone and had to call customer service to get full functionality but they did something that fixed it right away.
Is it possible they can/would do something like this for whitelisted unlocked phones if you are an existing customer with an active sim?

I guess I have to wait 6 mo to find out . Can't understand why they would want to lose you to another provider because you got a good deal on a phone!

No, I have no personal experience with using eSIM on Android phones overseas. My answer was based on what my brother told me. He lives in Australia, and travels extensively to SE Asia and Europe.

Apple uses its clout to prevent the carriers from using the "whitelist" nonsense on iPhones. Once an iPhone is unlocked, it's fully accepted by all US carriers.

Yeah we were talking about overseas esim of Metro unlocked Android phones ( A54 and 6a ). If your brother successfully uses esim overseas with Metro unlocked Android phones, that's great news, and please share what Metro phone he has.

My brother does not have a Metro-unlocked Android phone. My answer was not specific to Metro-unlocked Android phones. Please disregard my posts if they're not relevant to your situation/discussion.

I don't know about the Metro Pixel 6a, but my Metro Samsung A54 that I got a few days ago didn't pass the Verizon IMEI Check, so can't be used with Tracfone/Verizon. Somebody checked the IMEI of their Metro Samsung S21 FE and it didn't pass either.

You might want to ask someone to run the IMEI of their Metro 6a (after they've received it) through the Verizon BYOP IMEI Checker and see what it says.
Interesting how the evil geniuses have figured out a way for a carrier unlocked phone to be unusable on other major networks.

I just found out the hard way with my Metro a53 which just got unlocked after 6 months. It's unusable with tracfone, even with the usual TracFone tricks of sim swap or activating a new sim. It also doesn't work with my prepaid AT&T SIM either. I'm passing on this "deal" and others from Metro from here on out.

Thanks for your data point. With TF/Verizon, did they not accept its IMEI for activation of a new SIM? What happened when you did a SIM swap (not that I recommend it)? What exactly happened when you tried to use it with a prepaid AT&T SIM?

Is your Metro A53 model number SM-A536U? This model is whitelisted by ATT.
https://www.att.com/idpassets/ima...etwork.pdf

MY Tracfone A53 model is not listed on ATT whitelist, but it passes ATT and Cricket IMEI check.

It's interesting that the AT&T whitelist hasn't been updated since November 2022. Can't check the status of newer phones like the A54.

Do you have a link to the AT&T IMEI Checker?

Right that's why I am having hope Metro A54 model may be added to ATT whitelist very soon.

ATT used to (3 months ago I checked) let you input IMEI to check when you choose byod, but last week I checked again they just direct to their whitelist pdf link I included in my above reply. So seems only phone model number is what ATT cares. Cricket IMEI check seems more accurate.

I haven't seen an AT&T IMEI Checker since around 2021 when they started publishing their two lists of accepted phones (one list you linked to and this one https://www.att.com/idpassets/ima...etwork.pdf )

So I've been using the Cricket IMEI Checker as a proxy for AT&T.

ATT IMEI checker was there even several months ago for byod, first let me add sim kit in cart, then a picture and model name of phone were showing on left side after I typed phone IMEI. The funny 😄 part was their picture and model name were very different from phone's real image and model, although the phone compatibility result was correct. I am glad they finally abandoned the no meaning part. If the phone model number is all they care then the whitelist doc is enough.

If you have a phone that is using T-Mobile Prepaid and you buy the 6a with a new number, can you port the T-Mobile Prepaid number over to the 6a after a little while? Can you do this online without having to go to a store?
