I'm Hanzelnuts, I was mentioned in the Wiki. You guys are lucky because Spectrum is excepting a lot of older phones as trade in for this promotion. A Note 4 is now worth $35 + $600. That's crazy.

I did this promotion 2 months ago. Traded in my Note 9 for $27 and Iphone 8 plus for $12. Note 9 was the oldest they will take back then and so was the iPhone 8. I had a Note 4 that didn't qualify. I had to buy the IPhone 8 for $90 to do the trade in.

I went in the store and paid in full for S23 Ultra and S23. Contrary to FatGuyPoolShark, I like many people, had to send in our trade-in to Assurant. You'll be lucky if the store accept your trade in. It has to be sent in.

Anyways, I have Spectrum internet. There was a promotion of buy one unlimited line for $29.99 and you'll get one line free. For those that didn't get this promotion in their email, ASK THE REP at the store if you can get that promo. Chances are, they'll say yes.

I was able to unlock my 2 phones within one week. I called and asked if they could unlock them and the agent unlocked them while I was on the phone with her. You might want to say you're traveling and needed them unlock.

Assurance emailed me and says my phones were accepted as trade-ins. But instead of $27 for my Note 9, they only going to pay me $15 reason being it was late. It wasn't late, as they received it within the 30 days required to mail in.

I have a credit of $1227 with Spectrum right now. I'm too busy to call and ask them to credit them back to my credit card. It shouldn't be a problem though.

Feel free to ask any questions if need to.

See the post below yours. Trade 1: Broken S8+ for S23, get $600 credit. Trade 2 (wait a while): Trade S23 for S23u, get $1000 credit.

Swollen battery or any other uncertain issues, trade-in instore. If they accept it, deal's done.
I wish they would have taken the trade at the store but refused due to the cracked screen.

Just opened a second phone line and traded in a pre-historic Samsung S6 (Sprint) for $635 to get another S23. Did it in store (Queens, NYC), tax only on the balance, total paid $189.63. I am glad that I did not throw away that old phone. It has some sensor issue with the back button (constant ghost clicking), but the rep accepted it anyway after verifying the IMEI.

Update:
  1. Phone can be activated without having to open the box, so it can be left sealed new-in-box.
  2. I imagine the same is true for unlocking, but I haven't yet confirmed.
  3. The promo terms require that the phone be activated, so that step is mandatory.
This probably also means that activation is using eSIM or that somehow a physical SIM card is already inserted.
Phone needs to be connected to the internet in order for the SIM unlock to go through

Those who unlocked, could you please answer the below queries?

1. Do you need to open the device and activate or can it be done without opening the box?

2. Were you able to get it unlocked only after activating? Or just called the customer service and asked them to unlock directly?

3. Did you directly did the trade in in store and got the TIV applied to your purchase?
Although the S23 can be activated via the Spectrum website without powering the phone on and without even unsealing the box, the final "device has been activated" e-mail didn't arrive until I powered on the S23 and started setting it up. So it seems risky not to power it on because that might prevent full activation.

As for unlocking, from what I've read, Samsung phones, unlike iPhones, must be powered on and still have service with the locking carrier to allow a successful unlock to occur. I haven't been able to get final confirmation yet.
Update: I see that the post right above this one has confirmed: "Phone needs to be connected to the internet in order for the SIM unlock to go through."

I gather that that would probably require SIM-unlocking first, then either:
  • Insert the SIM of a different carrier and try factory reset. That might change the splash screen to be the new carrier.
  • If that doesn't work, after the phone is SIM unlocked, try first searching XDA forums or a general websearch for the direct-from-Samsung firmware. Otherwise there's an older post here that mentions some firmware for S23: https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS2...anded_s23/

Thank you. Maybe I will try to reset it with different SIM card. It's already unlocked.

One thing I am not clear about, how long do we need to keep the line active after we have received the trade in credit and unlocked the phone?

Also, for double trade ins, what do you do with the line after youve traded it in?
confused about that. Peace
The sales guy told me to cancel the line I'm adding and keep the upgrade one .

Found an old S6 ( ATT) and they quote $625... tempting to do another.

Anyone in California had trouble with this deal?

I went to a local store and they wanted me to pay the phone through contract. I told them I'll pay full amount and when you receive the phone, credit my cc and they said the credits would go towards the spectrum account.

2 S23 out of pocket: $1723.98 + $30 phone bill. Crazy

Anyone else had this problem?

Final update for tonight: Successfully traded in the Tracfone samsung in for S23. $222 out the door with taxes. Called Customer Service and unlocked and then cancelled the line immediately. She assured me I could cancel immediately without any trouble and that was that.

Ordered another tracfone to do this deal next week and tomorrow will try to trade in the s23 for the s23 ultra. Not really clear how this would be a problem at all. Really impressed by this deal.

when you traded in the s23 that you got yesterday for another one today. did you cancel the line already? did they say anything that you had just activated a line the day before?

After I activated my line today and then called to cancel it, the lady was not able to cancel the line immediately because it had not shown up as activated on my account. She put in a service ticket to get cancelled later.

I am unsure if I should wait a few days to trade in the s23 for a s23 ultra or just do it tomorrow and YOLO.

1. You better make sure the IMEI is correct on your trade-in. The shipping label will have the trade-in IMEI on it. If it doesn't match, Assurant will deny your trade-in and you're SOL with $600.

2. You'll get your $600 after Assurant has accepted your trade-in device. Afterwards, call Spectrum and ask them to credit that back to your credit card. Otherwise, it will be in your Spectrum account.
Did they credit back to your CC?

I didn't cancel any line, yet. I just upgraded my other two lines. The sales guy said I can upgrade anytime because I paid cash for the phones. I will do another today and trade in my s23 for the s23 plus . I will only pay taxes because they're giving us $1k for it .I also have my s22 plus and stylus 5G that I will trade and get two more s23. This is the best deal ever.lol
