Great deal! For those of us who prefer to "bring their own storage," the 16GB/256GB would have been better (assuming the price would have been proportionately lower), but at this price it's fine and allows you to use it right away w/o needing to worry about an external storage solution right away.
This thing will stream 4k (2x speed) YouTube without a single stutter. It is silent, despite the active cooling.
I'm almost surely going to pick up a second unit during Costco's sale. I'll probably have one unit permanently tied to my TV (for YouTube, Steam, CloneHero, Chrome, etc). And another in my office. For my office computer, I'm tempted to upgrade to the "Pro" model, but I'm likely deluding myself that I need the extra power relative to the $500 base.

I recently bought the mac studio, I havent opened it yet. Should I return it to get this?

I have a 16GB version, and I have 40-50 tabs open at all times, programming ide, photoshop, discord/slack, several instances of terminal open, local web server and a few more small apps. I've not seen this wonderful machine to throttle me at all.
The only scenario that would require 32GB is for somebody who probably needs to render huge amount of something. That's an absolute overkill for anything else unless you're trying to future-proof.

Best reason to get this one is if you need HDMI 2.1, 4k at 120Hz. Otherwise the M1 Max is better.

- Having a ton (50+) tabs open in Safari
- Having Discord, Slack, Photos.app, and Preview.app (with some large-ish +100MB ebooks) all open at once
- Doing anything with non-Apple Silicon-optimized apps like Fusion 360
In general, 8GB is totally fine for most cases. But for any kind of intensive work, I wish I would have sprung for the 16GB versions, and definitely will in the future.
