Saying you're an early adopter is a stretch if you're only on year 3. You must be doing something wrong if you're having battery issues already . I am on year 7 and my batteries degraded to like 50%. Still using all my original batteries the came with the tools.

I am an early EGO adopter (got them when Home Depot had the contract with them). I have 5 of their tools and 4 of their batteries. I am on year 3 and all my batteries are turning into paperweights. My 5ah hold like 30% of their original charge, and my 2.5ah literally give me 15 minutes or less on like my leaf blower.

The tools work great. The convenience of electric is super. But I am mad I am going to have to drop $500 already on some new batteries. There is no way I would even come close to $500 of gas at this point.

I'm not saying don't go electric/EGO, just be aware that you will be replacing these batteries MUCH FASTER than you anticipate. Don't go electric because you think it will be cheaper in the long run - it won't be.

I don't the the lone batteries are really a deal unless you already have all the tools you want? You can get the 765 blower for $300 with a 5ah battery for example, and that blower is pretty beast. Or a 650 blower for 220 or so.

Lol, the cost of charging...
My lawn takes right around my 9ah worth of batteries for full mow, trim, edge, and blow sidewalks if I don't let it get unruly. We'll round up to 10ah and assume $0.10 per KWH, which is more than I pay (again rounding up). That come out to 0.56 KWH (56V x 10Ah), if you assume 1 KWH due to charger inefficiencies (rounding WAY up) we come out to $0.10 per mow/trim/edge/blow.

I agree the tools & batteries are expensive, but replace when you need new stuff anyways and it's less of a killer. The real benefit is being able to always have a full "tank" to do your work, never having to go to gas station, no storing gas, no extra gas at end of season that sits for months, and (for me) no mixing gas for trimmer/edger!
I'm only ariund a year in, but no sign of bad degradation of batteries like others had mentioned, hoping to never have those issues! 🤞
I understand, but mowing my regular 1/4 acre lawn takes 2 gallons of gas per year. A blower takes just a few ounces per season. The cost of the battery itself is about 20 years of gas right out of the gate.

I'm confused. Any help appreciated.

I have an Ego Mower. Will this battery work in it?
And will it work with this edger and trimmer? B/c I want to replace my old black and decker one.

I store my battieries in a temp controlled environment. going on 6 years with my 2.5 and 4 with my 4ah, no issues so far, might have lost a little life in them, but nothing worth noting for me.
This is the comment I was looking for! DO NOT store your batteries in the garage unless it's temperature controlled or you have absolutely no where else to put them! I learned the hard way that it's one of the other trade-offs of going electric where you can. Overall electric is less maintenance (no tune ups, oil changes, etc), even though the batteries don't last forever.

Just curious. I've had my Ego equipment with 1 5ah battery for over a year now. No issues so far but since the batteries have a 3 year warranty, could you not just have them replaced under warranty?

I am starting to get really tempted by the aftermarket Ego batteries

$130 for a highly rated (well reviewed) 5.0 Ah battery is… maybe not the worst idea I've ever had.

We'll see.

My 2 and 2.5's still seem to carry a decent charge. (As does my 10.0 that came with my mower.)
I recently bought an aftermarket 5.0 Ah battery from Amazon that paid a little under $130 for after taxes. It works basically the same as the one that came with my lawnmower from like 2017 or 2018 (don't remember the year). I felt much better shelling out that money than spending $300 on a battery from Ego. I might as well just look for a new mower on sale if I'm going to spend that much on a battery.

Wish the 2.5 was a bit cheaper. I would probably bite at $110. Don't really need the larger and heavier 4.0 since I have a small yard and can get trimmed, edged, and blown before the 2.5 dies. I also have a refurbed battery still going strong on year 4 now. I wish Ego had a stronger refurbed program like Ryobi.

I have my ego mover for almost 5 years now. The batteries are almost like new, they hold at least 80-90% original charge. All I did was charged the batteries to around 60% and stored them inside during winter time.

Yes! I have the 16" version a model year older, and it's a beast! By far the best chainsaw I've ever owned.
agreed.. I demolished a huge water oak with a 16 inch ego.. I should have taken pictures of the job .. It would have been a great advertising tool for them. Went through about 10 chains.. But zero problems with the tool itself..

Planned obsolescence. Seems like EGO uses Samsung 25R 18650 batteries in their battery packs. That's about $100 of batteries for a 28 pack "5 amp hour" EGO battery. I would not be surprised if they intentionally made the battery management system drain the batteries after 3 years; either the resettable fuse goes haywire under load, and puts your battery in green/red mode. Or the cells stop holding a charge. I know some posts say that one battery goes bad (reads 0 volts) and then the pack is toast...

I just sell the tools when a decent priced combo comes along. EGO seems to be in demand where I am located. One day flips. Milwaukee and Dewalt get no bites.
Where do you go to flip the tools and keep the batteries?
