I would used to recommend this. Rest assured, you will eventually have to replace this because it won't work as well as it did on day one, for one reason or another. But ring had a great warranty when you're a subscriber. However, I recently ran into an issue with this floodlight (inconsistent motion detection) and they made excuse after excuse about how it's operating "normally", thus not offering a replacement.

Buyer beware.

Ring is a scam company who makes every excuse not to honor warranty with legitimate problems and they make you go through hours of stupid troubleshooting before they'll even consider sending a request for more help to a higher tier. It's disgusting. I suggest you just buy any ring items at Costco so when they break down and or you have a problem you can just return it and get a new one.

Trick is ur device doesn't connect to wifi so u can't trouble shoot😂..had for 4 yrs plus with security..never had issues getting replaced

Do I need special wiring to install this or can I just replace a basic outside porch light with this?

I had a first gen floodlight that wasn't working and Ring replaced it with the latest version. Pretty painless process.

No. Same wiring as any other light fixture.
