Check out thrift stores. I always see a few edgers everytime I go and they go for around for 10-15 bucks. Good chance of finding older tools that were built to last compared to today's disposable plastic models. That's where I got what looks to be a decades old metal black and decker that's built like a tank.
Just make sure to test it out before the return period expires though.

Just bought 1 a week ago, still in the box unopened. Amazon customer service confirmed I need to return and order new to get the price change. "Climate Pledge" my ass.

I think it is important to note that this is a corded tool, not cordless

Seems like a good deal. Unless you get one with a loose blade - according to reviews.

I prefer a string trimmer/weed whacker for edging. Just nicer to use, better results

I'm a bit confused by it being called a "trencher"....

Edger? Yes. Trencher? Uhmm.

(Maybe a "trencher" for an electric fence cable)

I've been on the market for it on these sites, the price mark ups are insane lately. I regret not buying a used on last year

how would this work as for installing the poor man irrigations systems they sell on amazon, my buddy used a hand edger, but it took forever, even if I had to do more by hand would this give me a good start?

Got one of these for Christmas from my folks. It did ok enough with simple clean-up edging that was already pretty well maintained, in other words just shaving grass and loose soil. When I tried it on a run of sidewalk that wasn't edged often, the blade went limp as soon as it touched more than half an inch of dirt. Would not recommend…

It would run the lines deeper than our local telecom...

Who's buying corded tools these day? With all the Ryobi deals on tools and batteries, hard not to go cordless.

Bought one of these a couple of years ago for $99 and it has been a great tool. You do need a heavier duty extension cord to feed that 12 amp appetite though.

The blade has loosened up on my once or twice where the blade won't spin against any resistance. But, it's pretty easy to tighten the nut back down and it has been well over a year since I had that happen.

I edge my sidewalks and driveway and it digs the mud out at the edge and cuts cleanly. At $80 this is a no brainer. You're looking at some serious cash to get a battery version that is going to be nearly as strong as this.

I have a backup generator that I test run once a month, during mowing season, I'll use the generator to power this to give it a good variable test loading.
