Could be interesting. I am in the market for a larger tablet for plane rides and stuff, but always hesitant about Amazon Fire products. Feel like they start kind of slow to begin with, and within 6-12mo they slow to a crawl.

The 11" tablet to buy today IMHO, based on "value"... is the Lenovo P11 Pro.
You can find the Lenovo P11 Pro on sale for as low as $220 but if it goes to $230, I would JUMP!!!

The P11 Pro is about the same price but....
1. Almost no bloatware
2. OLED screen, it is soooo much better when watching movies
3. CPU is MUCH faster
4. Runs Android 12 and will get updates including Android 14 (this is for the P11), I would think Amazon may bet that but at what cost (using their eco system)?
It really is a no brainer.

I will say that it use to be... Fire Tablets were best value by far (I own a 2018 Fire HD10) but not so much today. And XDA Amazon Tool Box no longer disables Amazon apps, including targeted advertisements.

These are great points. I was a fire fanboy and just feel silly for it now. The FireOS is so restrictive, intrusive and non-intuitive. I always cracked them with fire tool box but they've stopped that ability now. Agree with slickcrowd, p11 would be a better get for nearly every use case.

I third this. I still have 3 Amazon fire hd 10 tablets including a plus model and they are just gathering dust. The Lenovo tab 11 pro is the way to go. I even have a Galaxy tab S8 that is barely getting used because the screen on the Lenovo is so much better.

Yeah you can argue all day long about Android vs. iPhones but when it comes to tablets, iPads are in a league of their own:
AT LEAST 5 yr update support (some are seeing 7!)
Crazy good battery life
Crazy better performance (and if you step up to the iPad Air or Pro, they have a fair chance at being faster than your PC too)
Build quality
Better quality apps (plus the AVERAGE Android user doesn't use a SINGLE app that's not available on Apple Store).
Much less malware exists
Designed in the **USA**

Disadvantages?
OEM pencil costs more (but is better)
Other OEM add ons are more expensive (Some but usually Samsung is on par)
iOS apps are very occasionally more expensive
iPads are more expensive (actually if you calculate TCO to even 4 years, iPad wins)

Btw, I've have and have had many Android tablets including a Samsung Galaxy Tab S8.

I also have many Fire tablets (the Amazon Kids+ subscription content is unmatched anywhere). If this isn't the first one where performance generally stinks, esp w any multitasking at all, it'll be the first.

I might buy it just bc i like trying out new stuff, eso from Amazon… before they quickly replace or discontinue.

Btw, just in case you have any Amazon Halo stuff or subscription, they just announced they're closing it all down and it won't work soon.

"most powerful", "4GB RAM". Those shouldn't be in the same sentence.

The person sitting at the helm of Amazon devices is a penny pincher, just to save a few $$ on the BOM cost they create such underwhelming and under performing hardware. All Echo product line, FIRE tablets even the kindle product line, then they also want to constantly show ADS and would charge $20-$30 more to be able to have a tablet without ADS.

No wonder why the devices division is going down and they have to fire 9000+ people, someone is doing extremely poor product lifecycle management
Keep away from amazon fire/echo/kindle at all costs to save yourself frustration.

Totally agree. BUT, when you can pick up an Amazon Fire on sale or refurb for around $100 or even less then it starts to be in contention again. You just have to be aware of the limitations.

And I still think it's a great little kids tablet. Especially with their warranty if you get the kids version.

I upgraded my s7 to a s8+ cause I hate the screen. I use the s8+, my wife uses hp 11x (chromebook tablet) and my kid uses the p11 pro. I would have gotten three p11 pro's but when I got my s8+ and hp 11x, the p11 pro did not exist.
Like you, I can't recommend this tablet enough.
