If I didn't already have an iPad, I might pick up something like this. Jailbreak it and use it like a normal Android tablet. My main use case of a tablet is to watch movies on a plane or when traveling and an 11" iPad costs $800.

how much better is this than the fire 10(non plus one)
i have the 10 and it get sluggish pretty fast, basically can only do one thing at a time

I got it during the Prime Day sale with the 20% trade-in discount plus trade credit and I'm glad I made the upgrade.

The build quality itself is A LOT nicer. It is noticeably faster, not dramatically, but you can tell.
No way would I buy it at MSRP but I think it's worth it at $150 if you are ok with Fire's atrocious OS and ecosystem.

Got it for ~$65 on prime day to replace an HD 10 (20% off plus $35 trade in).

Build quality is better & screen is slightly bigger & brighter. I don't know if it's worth $150 though, you won't be blown away by the improvement

Amazon tablets are cheap, but very low-powered and cumbersome to use for anything more intensive than reading e-books or watching videos. I have not tried it, but from what I've read, replacing the Amazon launcher user interface with a more general purpose Android launcher is a complicated and time consuming process that does not work for everyone.

Hmmm. *thinks back to the good ole 8MB Fry's PC build days from the 90s. Still have it in my garage and bet it would still run a stripped Linux kernel just fine. It did back then. Kids!

I appreciate the breakdown you provided, but to say got it for $65 is misleading. You got it for $100 then ($65+$35).

You just sold your old tablet for peanuts, i.e. $60, (i.e. $35 GC plus $25 presumably the 20% discount).

Good deal nevertheless. I wouldn't have sold Fire HD 10 for that.

Any thoughts on this vs. the Fire 10+ for $95?

I just want something to serve as an Echo device in my kitchen and to watch YouTube recipe videos while I'm cooking. Unfortunately, none of the Echo Show devices, except the 15, have a YouTube app, and navigating YouTube through Amazon's browser sucks. I've heard about the 10 being laggy, but for my needs I think it should be OK. Or should I spend the extra $55 and get the 11?
