This is hard for me to say but i think i agree with you. Projectors may not have as good picture as oled with dolby vision but for some reason to me watching the movie on such big screen in more special.
I beg the differ I have an 55 inch LG GX in bed room and a 75 inch LG OLED in living room and a Ben Q projector 📽️ 120 inch in the basement aka man cave lol to be freaking honest with myself I love my oled way better than the projector 📽️ period the only thing I can say where projector freaking are awesome is 3D movies and games hint. Hint Ps3 3D capable games like killzone and etc. but when it comes down to movies OLED baby OLED them blacks them colors are so vibrant it's crazy…. I have my set up like this with the the Oled tv with Govee vision back lights and 2 side lights on movie mode with the LG sn9YG 7.1.4 surround sound system with two up firing speaker for Dolby vision and Dolby atmos I found myself with my 75 inch oled the in my man cave that how good the OLED are any ways to each their own but big screen oled shoot even a 55 inch oled is great 👍trust will not disappoint

The true slick deal in this thread… UHZ50 $1999 at B&H right now. Better projector + save half a G
Agreed. I know this one is great, but it's a bit pricy after so many years. BTW, I have a 4010 project at 140 inch, so I know the image quality is top notch.
Totally different category of products

Its literally being refreshed momentarily.
I got my 5040 around that time and loved it. After extensive research >> for upgrade path, 5050 won't be a worthwhile jump, LS11000 maybe. LS12000 for a definite A/B quality/brightness difference.
Despite these prices, Epson is still the king of bang for buck in the lower and medium segments. No pressure to adjust their pricing.

Why are the short throw projectors a thing? I really want a projector behind me, quite a ways behind if i have the space for it. I don't want a projector to be in my line of sight.
There are numerous types of projectors. The throw distance categories are typically described as a long throw projector (standard), short throw, or ultra short throw (UST). Throw distance is the distance between the projector itself and the image it is casting on to a surface. Each type of projector is a different use scenario. Not everyone has a large enough room to get the image size they want with a standard, long throw projector and are limited to a short throw or UST to get the image size desired.
For clarity and image uniformity, physics dictates that the easiest (potentially best) option available is the long throw projector because it can have a nearly 90° angle the image is being thrown on to the screen. As you get closer to the screen, you are forced to use a short throw or UST to get the same size image but that image is being thrown at extreme angles. Being at those angles makes it much more difficult for the unit to get the same clarity across the entire image.
So, each classification of projector is based on entirely different needs for a space and usage. UST projectors have seen a large advantage in technology being implemented, image quality, and availability in recent years which makes them much more attractive. They are a bridge between people who want a large, immersive image without having to sacrifice the space it is in by making it completely light controlled and catered around a longer throw projector. UST projectors can go in a living room much easier than short throw or long throw projectors can.
It really does boil down to there being a variety of offerings for difference needs which is great for consumers
