Yeah, that's true. Seeing the reviews from Vacuum wars, comparing the suction numbers is a bit academic IMHO. In practice myself, using the S7 MaxV, I didn't really notice the Turbo mode (what I assume is the higher suction rating) making a huge difference over the Regular mode.

I was really hopeful for the S8 series with the dual rollers, but I'm seeing the reviews saying the change wasn't that impactful. Some users say using the older model brush, even on the single-brush models, really helps for fur pickup on carpet. I'm disappointed since my Roomba J7 with dual rollers is much better on carpet despite much lower suction but it's camera-based navigation can get infuriating.
Yeah i think the baseline s7maxv suction is already higher than the regular s7. So the better vacuum performance is already baked in.

They say you should get a robot vacuum with at least 2000 kpa suction power. Regular s7 barely makes the cut in that case.

I follow vacuum wars on youtube too. Lol. They said the performance of the s7max v is one of the best robot vacuums for suctioning carpets, though like all robots, it understandably sucked at crevice cleaning

Yeah, they do love it. I thought they really liked the S7 too. Practically speaking rather than just pure suction specs. Trying it myself, we didn't think the cost bump was worth it, even compared to our old S4 in terms of vacuuming or navigation. Main motivation to upgrade is the auto empty base, so going with S7+ for now.

edit: here's a recent video where they did a compare, noting your points. not worth the extra $220 ($440 vs $660) on this sale.

By the way if you are really concerned about carpet clean ups, you can buy aftermarket brushes for the s7maxv and most likely also for the s8 that are more suited for carpets rather than hard surface flooring (actually have spikey rigid brush hairs) off ebay or ali express.

I'm sure that would greatly improve carpet performance over the stock soft red silicone brush

Nice, good rec, I've heard that too. Have one you recommend?

I'm also wishing they still had the OEM bagless option. Emailed Roborock support and they recommended pairing the Cyclone add-in with a corresponding bin for AliExpress. They said the bin that comes with it will also work with the cyclone, but I'm skeptical since I thought the USA model needed a bin change to the bagless model.

Sounds like I have an AliExpress order in my future haha

Yeah i bought off aliexpress. Try this.

Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out! $6.83 67%OFF | 2PCS Cleaning Brush For Roborock S7 MaxV S8 Pro Ultra Robot Vacuums Empty Wash Fill Dock Accessories
https://a.aliexpress.com/_mKnMC8o

By the way I regret buying the cyclone dustbin for the bagless option on the s7 auto empty dock.

In theory it sounds good but it causes massive dust and the canister gets nasty.

I've learned to appreciate the dust bags. They are virtually dust free once you cinch them up and throw it in the trash. No polluted air gets into your house or even in the canister housing, much less the post dustbag hepa filter of the autoempty dock.

Also the dust bags have pretty good capacity. I haven't had to dump them more than once every couple of months.
Aliexpress also sells aftermarket bags for cheap.

Fyi the cyclone only works with the original bin. You will need to buy the cyclone for about $25 on aliexpress and the bin which runs about $45.

Honestly as I mentioned it's not worth it. Bagged is the way to go.

This youtube video sums it up well.

I have a S4 max from 2021 and a short haired dog that sheds some. 2200 sqft that is mostly LVP with carpet bedrooms. I schedule it to sweep the LVP areas M,W,F and the carpets only on Friday. The thing is one sweep and it's mostly full. So I want auto empty. S4 will get moved to the finished basement.

Do I get the Q5+ or S7+? I'm not sure I'd find the auto mop feature that necessary so I'm leaning to the Q5+. Mopping is pretty easy. I just need the every other day sweeping to keep dog hair down. The auto mop dock is out of my price range.

Nice thanks!

Yeah we have a GSD so were going through bags in the S7 MaxV Plus (same base I think) about once a month, I'm also wondering about the ability to see any Legos or other parts in the bin, but maybe that's silly. Bags do probably make more sense financially but bagless is tempting.

The Q Revo (?) is also interesting but I feel like their coupon tactic feels shady so prob not going that route.

Yeah, seems like you have a pretty good feel for the trade offs. One thing to note about Q7+ (I know you didn't mention that one) is that I don't think it lifts the mop. That feature for houses that have hard floors and mops is pretty nice.

Yeah, my wife was pretty pro-mop feature when we returned the S7 MaxV and re-evaluate. And I did like it for our use case (kids, dog for traffic). It mostly replaced our need to Swiffer I think.

I was also hopeful for the bagless base but hearing reports of how they may not be worth it.

edit: also the mop does kinda start to stink, so you have to remove it right after. I'd tend to agree that your use sounds like the Q5+ is a good fit; auto empty with lidar is a solid combo

I believe I read I can disable/remove the mop from the Q5. Or does it simply not have one (preferred). I agree it's a stinky swifter replacement not a mob replacement.

Oh so the bases aren't that useful? I'd like to just empty it once a week.

It automatically senses it and the app will suddenly have more functionality. Just unplug the regular dock and put the s7maxv in vicinity of the auto empty dock
Thanks. I need 2 robovacs and planing to buy S7+ and S7 MaxV so i can swap the charger / AutoEmpty Dock - it appears a cheaper option than buysing just the Auto Empty bin , for my need. Hope this swap works if they have the same charger...Do you know?

Shucks I should have paid $40 more for the auto empty. Can I return my S7 MaxV and get the plus?

I have the s7 maxv from a previous deal and I purchased an auto empty dock separately.

Personally I don't think the ultra dock (which makes it a maxv ultra) is worth it.

I've read that you have to buy a mop drying dock separately. Also the water refilling and dirty water tank are difficult to clean.

My auto empty dock is virtually maintenance free. I just simply buy extra vacuum bags. The canister is clean as a whistle. I also purchase extra mop pads and when they accumulate I throw them in the washer at the same time. They come out cleaner than the half ass job the ultra dock does.
Difficult to clean? It's a sealed container meant to be poured into waste and sealed back up. It does not serve any purpose except for being a receptacle for waste. Treat the water in the clean section with mild products such as F10SC or white vinegar, and let that do the work. The product is designed to just be rinsed and reused at most.

I think you simply don't understand the product. You won't find anything that beats this product for what it does. It always destroys the competition in all sectors and has for years. You get what you pay for, if that isn't your cup of tea, go mop your floors?

is it tough if you want to take a any of these from floor to floor in your house... like do they remember all their mapping, etc. so that you just somehow tell it you're on the 2nd floor, etc. and it know what to do? I think my house is small enough that getting multiples of these would be overkill

This looks like work to me.
Also check your attitude at the door. I think you may be misunderstanding me here.

If you are trying to convince me that the s7maxv is an awesome machine... I knew that already. I have one.

I decided to get the s7maxv with the s7 plus auto empty dock rather than the ultra dock because to me, the ultra dock cost too much for the extra functions it provided. Also based off my research (reddit comments and the above youtube video), it required too much maintenance for that extra bit of functionality.

At least it does compared to my maintenance free auto empty dock. Dirty mop pads I can easily put in my washer (and get them much cleaner than the ultra dock), and refilling the water tank of the s7maxv is easy and I don't mind. It's emptying the dust bin which I hate. I had to do it frequently and also because dust flies everywhere and I don't want anyone at home to breathe it in.

The auto empty dock is always clean as a whistle. All I have to do is toss out the dust bags.
