IMO the best nvme for laptop is Hynix P31 (good perf/watt), or Firecuda 530 (lower temp but similar performance), or maybe plug this SN850x externally with 40Gbps+ (TB3+/USB4) NVME enclosure with built-in fan to the laptop.

2. There are Generations or Gen(s). Gen3, Gen4, Gen5. Mainly this is all about the speed, however, your equipment
plays a big part. Your system may only take Gen3 drives, for example. This doesn't mean you can't install a Gen4 or Gen5, only that
you will be capped at the Gen3 speed. They are all pretty fast, though, and you might not even be able to tell much difference in speeds.
3. In addition to Gen3 vs 4 or 5... There is one other main thing to check. Some drives have DRAM (really fast memory) on them that 'sits' in between
you and the actual storage area on the hard drive. If the drive doesn't have this DRAM, sometimes they are called DRAMless.
When you transfer data to a drive with DRAM, you are actually sending it to that fast memory which in turn sends it to the storage area of the hard drive. It's just a
faster way to do it. The DRAM acts as a buffer to keep things moving faster. If you were to purchase a DRAMless drive then there's a chance you might occasionally
send too much data to the drive which would slow it down for a second... like when you send a bunch of files at once.
Fancy games also benefit from the drives that do have the DRAM.
Honestly you might not even be able to tell any difference between the DRAM and DRAMless.
Personally, I have 4 drives in my computer. I need to replace the boot drive that has my windows install on it. I will be looking for a Gen4 with DRAM.
My other drives are only for storage so I would purchase the least expensive one I could find, that has good reviews and since it's only for storage, it wouldn't matter
if it had DRAM or not and wouldn't matter what gen it was either.
Hope this helps and also hopefully somebody else will chime in where I'm wrong. It was just trying to keep it basic...
