I've not seen any compelling comparison in benchmark numbers for ddr5. It all looks like a very slight edge for ddr5 but a wash except say, specific compression jobs
Probably not, but since DDR5 will be the standard bearer for probably the next five years. (DDR 3 released in 2007, DDR 4 in 2014) I imagine new Motherboards will be designed around DDR5 for another 5+ years or so. You may well be able to upgrade a 2nd time without having to repurchase RAM again. No telling where RAM prices will be when DDR6 is released but a good chance not as cheap as it is now.

Thanks! Now I wonder if this would be worth upgrading from an Intel i5-8400…30% faster maybe?
🤣 So, you're asking if it's worth upgrading from a 5 year old, 6 thread, 4ghz cpu to a 1 year old, 16 thread, +4.9ghz (overclockable) cpu...

Here's a comparison video to watch, but it has the 8600k, which is the higher end version of your cpu...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xic6Sfq9veY

Depends what you do with it.

Repped - THANK you so much, this is exactly the kind of comparo I've been looking for (but only via articles and websites, didn't think to look to YouTube for this kind of thing).

So for me (or gamers really) totally not worth it. It really looks like you won't notice a difference in performance from a five year old CPU unless you are running Cinemark benchmarks for a living! Stick Out Tongue

I'm confused since the PRO Z690-A board only lists support for DDR5 and this is bundled with DDR4 ? *Oh, its the same model number but a DDR4 specific configuration...

AM5 motherboard will be last until 2026, so it is better to buy Ryzen 7000 series CPU with AM5.

Depends what you do with it.

This is kind of a weird reaction. First, VERY helpful video, thanks!

But you seem to be laughing at the premise of upgrading from the i5 8400 as if it's a slam dunk, but did you watch the video you posted?

Unless you are constantly doing 3 very specific (niche?) tasks, then the resounding answer I got from that was 'no'.

And 'hells no' if you're mostly considering upgrading for gaming.
