The cheap HF ones actually seem to be calibrated pretty well, the problem is that they often to fail to click (or click noticeably) at the set torque setting. Many people have this problem, but you might be lucky...for now.

On the other hand, these Huskys have a reliable and very noticeable click every time. Well worth the extra cost if you need to torque something important.
If you prefer the digital one, you can get the Quinn digital torque adapter(up to 250ftlbs), (MSRP 50, but HF has coupon frequently to bring down to ~35-40), https://www.harborfreight.com/12-...58706.html

Possibly dumb question, can you use this as a breaker bar? Just wondering if doing so would need up the calibration

I picked this up about a year ago from a previous sale ($50). This broke a couple of days ago on my second or third use (clicker failed) . On the plus side, home depot accepted my exchange no questions asked. Will see how MK2 performs.

What range would i need for just working on the car, bike, or a small outboard? Would 20-100 be more than enough?

That range isn't low enough for the bike and not high enough for some things on the car. You'd really need 3 sizes to work on all those things.

Breaker bars are cheap, don't wreck your torque wrench using it as one.

You got lucky using 1/2" for head gaskets. I used the HF 3/8" Torque wrench and set it to 30ft/lbs. It was seized or didn't click right. I didn't even pull on it that hard but it snapped the bolt on my Honda v6 engine.
What was the size of 'the bolt on your Honda v6 engine'?

You will break the wrench, I've done it.

My last Husky torque wrench lasted 10 years. It recently gave way when my girlfriend was helping me rotate her tires; instead of clicking, just disengaged and would slip any time torque was applied. Took it to Home Depot, no receipt, and they let me grab one of these off the shelves to replace it, no questions asked.

Sure you'll get a better torque wrench out of one twice the price (or quadruple the price in the case of Snap On), but these also have a lifetime warranty that is exceptionally easy to use.

This is a great tool at a great price. Educate yourself on its use and you'll be fine. Don't shy away because some goof somehow managed to break a HEAD BOLT with a 3/8" wrench. That wasn't the tool's fault. Likely had oil or coolant down in the bolt hole, didn't clean it out properly, and didn't chase threads like they should've. Not to mention many head bolts are torque-to-yield and as such should be replaced, not re-used.

I'd snag this for working on cars and then maybe just grab a 3/8" or 1/4" digital torque adapter for your smaller ratchets to use on the bike. The Quinn harbor freight ones aren't bad. Tough to break things with smaller drives.

You can get one from Harbor Freight for around $10 bucks that's just as accurate. Not a good deal. Next!

This may be true for the 150 ft-lb model, but the 250 ft-lb model currently advertised is Quinn-branded and is marked $79.99. As mentioned, you want the 250 ft-lb model for axle nuts.

Without debating name brands, I recently torqued some bolts to 30 in-lbs with a cheap 1/4" clicker (yes, that's under 3 ft-lbs.) It's good to be concerned about missing clicks, and anyone who's done this knows that you should be more concerned with the SMALL wrenches at low torque settings, but you already own some male hex sockets, right? Go ahead and familiarize yourself with the click beforehand.

Maybe don't use your 3/8 hex sockets to test much over 100 ft-lbs, though.

Just speaking from personal experience on things like bikes and cars. Have literally never broken a bolt with a 1/4" or even 3/8" drive wrench. Don't know what delicate things you're working on that look for 3 ft lbs, but the guy asked about cars, bikes, and engines. Would love to see someone try to snap an engine bolt with a 1/4" drive torque wrench.

Not saying it isn't possible, but I surely can't imagine myself pulling on a tiny ratchet so hard that I break a bolt that isn't made out of aerated chinesium.
