The cheap HF ones actually seem to be calibrated pretty well, the problem is that they often to fail to click (or click noticeably) at the set torque setting. Many people have this problem, but you might be lucky...for now.

On the other hand, these Huskys have a reliable and very noticeable click every time. Well worth the extra cost if you need to torque something important.
If you prefer the digital one, you can get the Quinn digital torque adapter(up to 250ftlbs), (MSRP 50, but HF has coupon frequently to bring down to ~35-40), https://www.harborfreight.com/12-...58706.html

I'm just looking for a torque wrench for my lawnmower and other random stuff. Is that <150
Absolutely. Even the lug nuts on my one ton truck are 140 ft-lbs. Most people will never utilize above 150.

It's not a matter of luck, it just has to be set up correctly. When there is no tension on it, you have to slightly push the head to one side before tightening it. If you know how to use it, it's 100% reliable. I usually will test it at a minimum setting to make sure it is engaging. I don't fault anyone for paying more for better quality, but those claiming the HF ones don't work are actually defective people rather than defective tools.

What range would i need for just working on the car, bike, or a small outboard? Would 20-100 be more than enough?
You need three wrenches for a car.

1/4" for small parts on engine building (e.g. valvetrain)
3/8" for general suspension, steering, and repairs
1/2" for lug nuts

Bicycles have special allen wrench torque wrenches. An outboard motor would use a 1/$" and a 3/8".

I paid less than $50 for a complete Harbor Freight set. They have worked perfectly for me, but you have to set them up right and know how to use them. A digital torque adapter on a 3/8"
ratchet is a more foolproof method.

Bearings, crankshafts, and head bolts torques are critical for proper engine assembly…25-75 ft-lbs range. I use a 1/2 " Craftsman beam torque wrench to incrementally hit the desired head bolt torque. You can visually see the applied torque in real time. A bouncing torque reading indicates a "dirty" nut/bolt/thread. Parts cleanliness is much more important than obtaining the most accurate torque wrench. It's very difficult for a novice user to break something with the use of a beam torque wrench

Lol I love all the thumbs down coming from people who aren't decent mechanics. If you're breaking bolts that's a person problem, not a tool problem, as another stated. Can't help some people I guess. Probably own Hart tools and think they're mechanical engineers.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but I checked in the app and Home Depot stacks your military discount on this too bringing the price (before taxes) to $53.97.

Those are terrible quality with very unreliable clicks making it easy to blow right past the torque setting resulting in broken bolts or stripped threads.

Read the recent discussion of those low quality Harbor Freight wrenches: https://slickdeals.net/f/16666229-harbor-freight-1-4-3-8-or-1-2-drive-torque-wrenches-11-99-with-coupon-5-26-5-29

I'm far from the only one that has had poor experiences with them.

If you have a home depot credit card they just sent you a $15 off $100 purchase discount code. Check your emails. I just used it successfully!

I will be using for tire rotation mostly. I can't think of any other usage for now. Can someone recommend which size to purchase please?

1/2 drive. Look up the torque requirements for the lug nuts of your vehicle. Cheaper torque wrenches that go up 150 ft lbs may work, Harbor Freight sometimes has them on sale for $12. This wrench has a way smoother torque adjustment and is easier to hit higher torque settings because it's 2 feet long. Use a 2 foot breaker bar to loosen the nut, HF has rubber handle one on sale for $17 with coupon. Don't use a torque wrench in place of a breaker bar or ratchet. Hope this helps.

Very good price for a 250 ft-lbs. torque wrench. It beats out the Quinn from HF in value.

If you don't need to exceed 150 ft-lbs. then these are phenomenal deals.

Those are absolutely terrible. I wouldn't buy them other than for lug nuts or something where precision is not critical.
