No free memory upgrade to 512gb. With regular offer at 512GB free upgrade, it is $427 with education discount comparing to $449, hence not good deal for 512GB version. But good deal for 256GB.

The biggest upgrade is the 8gen2. I own both s22u and s23u, the s22u is constantly a hot potato while s23u is at most warm under heavy load. Other than the processor, the battery life is a huge improvement. At $200 difference probally it makes sense to upgrade but not over that.

They ship you your new phone with packing material. Some soft sheeting and a lot of cardboard that is long, shredded like a pair of 80s jeans, rolled up on the new phone. A fedex return label will be inside. You will need to tape it to the outside of the box, on top of the original label (or remove the original label and apply new one).

Get your new phone up and running first. Look for any issues for a week.

Do a factory reset on your old phone. take a picture of the screen with your new phone to show no issues of front and back while on. In case Samsung employee tries to pull a fast one on you.

Turn your old phone off and wrap it up. You can dop off at any Fedex drop off location or find a Dollar General store. They will scan the package and send a receipt notice via text to your phone. Samsung will receive a couple business days later and let you know they receive. Few more days until they get a chance to review and ok the trade-in.

I semi agree with you. You don't need the edu discount if you order in the app. Also edu and epp discounts are plentiful and pretty easy to get. Majority of people have access to it. Also, the trade in values towards the s23u are much better than being offered elsewhere or even towards an s23+ ,. With that said I agree people get blinded by the deal and think they are getting an s23u for $250 when they are really getting the s23u for $250 plus the street value of the phone they are giving up
But it is $200 off what it had been selling for up until now. That's 16% right there. OK sure Amazon is also selling it for that right now. But you also have to look at the ELEVATED trade-in value. For an S22U, maybe you can easily get more than $750 for it. But for my Note 9, there's no way I'm getting $310 for it on the street (especially when accounting for fees and time). Yes the headline is misleading and it focuses on the wrong thing, but it's still currently the best non-contract deal there has been so far. At least for a 256GB. The free 512GB upgrade that stacked with EPP/edu/mil discount right for this deal started was slightly better (plus trade-in value on older phones like mine were higher then).

They didn't verify education with me; didn't use .edu email for my account either. I clicked into the education offer program on samsung.com without being logged in, then logged in, then went through CB site to reach samsung.com again, added phone to cart, and checked out. No verification needed. Considering they offer the same price in app without EPP, I doubt Samsung cares if you purchase at same price online even if you don't qualify for any EPP discount but just happened to stumble on one.

Quick question for the folks here that have upgraded to the 8gb RAM/ 256gb S23 Ultra... how's the RAM holding up for you so far? I know the S22 Ultra 8gb/ 128gb version got a lot of flak because the RAM wasn't good enough for last year's inefficient snapdragon processor so I'm trying to figure out if the same holds true for the more efficient S23 Ultra or not.

I currently have the 12gb RAM/ 256gb S22 Ultra and am looking to trade in for the S23 Ultra strictly for battery life and a cooler phone experience overall since my S22U easily gets uncomfortably warm outside here in the Vegas heat. I don't really care for the bigger 512gb drive since 256gb is more than enough for my needs.

Thanks!
I traded-in S21U (12/128) for S22U (8/128) last year and didn't miss the extra RAM. Of course, my usage differs from yours. No amount of RAM can fix inefficient SoC.
All versions of S21U/S22U have the same TIV so I didn't bother paying for more RAM/storage.

I am not saying that it is a bad deal like the poster I quoted , I am just saying people have to acknowledge the value of the trade in when calculating cost of the phone. I even mentioned the trade ins specifically for the Ultra (unfortunately not the Plus) were good.

However, comparing to the deals that were going on for s22 phones with Best Buy and Google Fi between October and January of last year - this pales. Then again they were fading out the s22 for the s23. So I expect something similar later in the year . However, the deals might not be as good because many, especially Slickdealers, took advantage of the offers and churned phones like crazy for a profit. BB caught on to this eventually and it ruined the deals for others.

So I have had my s22 plus for 7 months or so. I might be ok waiting for a deal on s23 right before the s24 comes out and be a phone behind. There have been so many releases that no one seems to care anymore.

I don't get how this is a "deal" at all, and especially not a slick deal.

You're giving them a phone to receive a discount, and not only that but it's not very good trade in values. I could sell my phone 3rd party and receive more money.
There is no actual sale going on here or deal, its just a normal trade in offer. and the educational discount is something that most places do, and a lot of people are not eligible for.
$250-$25 cb for a newer soc, camera, and a fresh phone that will have more TIV next year is definitely worth it in every scenario.

You can't say this deal isn't good because they had better deals on a different model at a different time of year. They're independent evaluations. This is a good deal for *this* phone. Is it the best it will ever be? Certainly not. There are better deals in S22's now than there were last year. Also the deals were so good on the S22 because it wasn't a good phone and didn't sell well. I'm not responding just to you but the one you originally replied to, as well as others saying it's not good.

Been using this from the s22 ultra and the battery life is an upgrade. Also it doesn't warm up as much, love it.

No. I can say that but I don't think I said it's a bad deal. I was just saying there are better deals usually in the fall, early winter when they are trying to clear stock for the next model

I upgraded to a 256GB S23U from a 256GB S22U. With my limited experience (5 days), the S23U seems more responsive, and runs cooler. There hasn't been any issue with the heat yet. The battery last longer (~50%). $250 is a no brainer for me considering the tiv next year.

I've only ever had those Samsung promos work on new accounts.

You said "this pales", in comparison to deals that aren't good comparisons. That's what I was responding to, along with the other people who said it's not a good deal.

And there's always going to be a better deal in the future. I guess "near" is relative, but I'd say if you're in need of a phone relatively soon and looking for a deal, you care about the next month or two (or the past month or two, if you've been waiting already), not the fall. And in the fall you can say well now the new model is coming out in February so might as well wait till then.
